Default Rough PDK downshift into first?

Hi all,

My PDK has a slightly rough downshift into first. You can hear it, sort a low volume thud, and you can feel it ever so slightly. With Sport mode, I tend to notice it less, and with rapid deceleration I notice it less, and once it's warmed up I notice it less. Doesn't happen with any other gear downshift - just low speed, downshifting when in low revs from second to first. I'm pretty sure it is subtle enough that no dealer would suggest anything was wrong, especially since the PDK is still is doing it's job of shifting. Wondering if that is "normal" and others have the same experience (would be reassuring if this is just the way it works).

Thanks!

Totally normal. No need to downshift into first prior to a dead stop, unless you're pushing it in a really slow corner and can keep the revs up.

Yeah, the shifting I'm talking about is when the computer is doing the shifting (not using the manual mode and paddles). When pdk chooses to downshift second to first, it can be a bit rough (vibrations can be felt and it sounds like a thud). So, that's how everyone's Pdk in auto mode works?

I sometimes feel the same thing on my 2015 C2S with PDK. Probably just the cold transmission fluid and clutches. I have over 12,000 miles after 11 months so probably no concern. It is such a slight "thud" it is hardly noticable.

Oh I thought you were talking about manual mode. I don't get a thud or rough shift in full auto mode.

My 09 997 had a rough downshift from 2nd to 1st by the 991 is smooth as silk. Never noticed it at all.

I suggest you have it checked just to be sure. You can have a free cup of coffee while you wait!

I might have to take my car for a spin tonight to see but I don't think my PDK ever automatically downshifts into 1st until stopped or pretty darn close to being stopped.

Update:

Did 91 miles of testing today. PDK from 2nd to 1st gear around 1-3 mph while coming to a stop no thud or even a noticeable hiccup in both econ/sport mode.

me neither , whether car or outside temp is cold or warm , when in regular or " sports " full auto mode

if I were a passenger and closed my eyes, there is no way I would know when PDK has shifted from 2 to 1 when slowing to a full stop..it is and has always been like that

" sports plus" in auto mode is another story ...but that is not what OP seems concerned about

I would have dealer look into it esp if OP thinks it is a newish development

My 997 has the same jerky downshift into first (eg, coming to a red light)...but only when the A/C is on AND when in Sports mode. Normal downshift otherwise. OP, see if your aircon changes the behavior any.

I was wondering if you ever resolved the rough transition from 2nd to 1st gear in your PDK.

I bought a CPO 2014 CS2 with 5,200 miles on it just a few days ago, and I'm experiencing exactly the same problem that you describe in your post.

Any info/advice appreciated.

Thanks.

My C2S is a manual. My only experience with PDK was on my Macan Turbo, which I mostly drove in Sport+ with PDK in Manual mode. On 2 - 1 downshifts, it is a big change in ratio, but the throttle blips automatically when downshifting manually. Never noticed a clunk sound, the way I drove it.

2014 cpo with 11000 miles did the same thing. It was so bad in sport that the only way to make a smooth stop was to flick it into neutral with the double paddle move. Dealership said aok.
Now at 17000 miles the tranny presents only perfection in all conditions. However, it's a new tranny replaced under warranty.

Why was your transmisión replaced? Was it due to the rough transitions from 2nd to 1st?
