Question 2013 991 S trouble starting after refueling

Hi All
I have a 2013 911 S,

I filled up at the gas station yesterday, got in to leave and the car would turn over and not start running. I tried maybe 6 times then got out to check the fuel cap and cover, took the cap off and put it back on and closed the cover. Got in and it fired right up no problem. Today I wanted to see if the car is programmed not to start if the fuel cap is on wrong or cover is open so i removed cap and left cover open.
Of coarse it starts right up, so there goes that theory...

Anybody ever hear of this or know what it may be?

Thanks in advance!
Mully

It doesn't know if the cap is on right away from a cold start, but it does have vacuum/pressure sensors in the tank to control/burn fuel vapors. How different were the air temps between yesterday and today?

Could possibly be related to the crank position sensor problems many of us have had. Classic symptoms are a long crank and/or no start when attempting to restart a warm engine. Problem is usually very random - I went for almost a year between no-start events before having the CPS shim fix.

Thanks Pfan,

Is this a known issue repaired under warranty? Can the dealer tell if this has happened and it is the cause when they scan it? Or is it the old keep bringing it back to change the next part thing?

Thanks
Mully

It's a fairly well known issue with the dealers and PCNA and definitely a warranty issue. To the best of my knowledge, nothing shows up on the diagnostics. I was lucky enough to have it malfunction for the tech (first time for everything). Parts replaced were 991-606-912-00 spacing washer and 991-606-112-02 speed sensor.

Thanks for the details! Do they have to tear the whole engine apart?

Pretty quick fix actually - as I recall only 3-4 hours.

Interesting....

Would you car eventually start if you kept trying?

The first two times it happened I was able to start it after 10-15 minutes. Third time it would run for a bit but repeatedly stalled when it dropped below approx. 1200 RPM.
