Forgot to mention that my wife has an A4 avant, so we would still have another car. That's why i want to get rid of the third car. I would not need to take my kids much as we live in Lincoln park and really walk most everywhere. 90% would be for solo commute. Sorry that I didn't mention that.
Also, a while back i had an 03 C4s and loved it. Audi is not the same!

Check out that "hot for sale" thread here. I hear they have nice used cars listed there.

Just saw that your clarification after I hit reply. Ok well since you have an A4 avant that you can use you have no excuse. There are great deals on left over new 2015s right now and they will only get sweeter as we near the end of the year. I was just at the dealer for an oil change and it was a ghost town. Once the weather gets worse the deals will only get better. Try to get it done by the end of the year.

Thanks guys! Stg991, I've been all over your posts for the past few weeks. I've also been hitting car gurus a lot too. I would really love to trade in both cars with minimal extra $$, so I feel a 13 or 14 gives me the best chance at that.
Also, when I had my c4s and snows, that car could drive through anything that 3 crappy Chicago winters threw at me. So, I am in for a winter set as well. Too bad I can't put my Audi A7 19 set on.

Here's the deal. I have a 2006 Boxster S with 24k miles and a 2012 Audi A7 with 25k miles, both in good shape. It's getting hard to keep 2 cars here in Chicago now that I have 2 kids under 3. I am convinced that i can satiate my Porsche lust with a CPO c4 or c4s and use it as a "family car", i.e. 2 car seats in back.
First, am I nuts? 2nd, should I wait a few months to see if inventory picks up? I also want a manual trans. You guys are the experts, so I'll patiently await your advice...

Since most of the replies came before you mentioned the Avant, I'll give you my thoughts. My kids are in their 20's now, but when they were young, I found that as long as you had one car that could fit the entire family and accompanying stuff, having a 4 seat sports car was not a problem. All the sports car has to accommodate is one adult and one or two kids, which a 911 can do very nicely until they get to be around 4 to 4.5 feet tall. For tooling around town and medium length trips you can fit the kids in back and plenty of stuff in the frunk. I'm speaking from experience because we had four 911s when my kids were little and mainly had station wagons for our family cars, including an S6 Avant that I loved. Unfortunately, when they got older we switched to BMW 3 series convertibles until they were old enough to drive, and now we're back to 911s. In fact, a couple of years ago, I drove from central PA to NYC in my 991 cab with my 4'10, then 24 year old daughter in the back and her much taller friend in the front. She said she was pretty comfortable.
As for winter driving, I have a 991 C4S cab that I use all winter as long as it's not snowing. However, my wife drives her snow tire equipped 997 C4S coupe as her daily driver, and it works very well in the snow. It's fun driving around town with SUV and pickup drivers staring down at us and wondering how the heck we're getting around. Of course, I also have a Macan Turbo for my use on snowy days and when I have to haul more than one adult around.
Bottom line: get the 991.

Yes, I do want it. Just trying to rationalize it to my wife! She's not a car person....at all. Fortunately she has many other great qualities.
Another ? Anybody buy a cpo and have it shipped? Seeing more inventory away from me

Yes, 2013 or 14 will be your best bet. As you've seen, lots of money $$ can be saved.

Been there, done that. I also live in LP and have driven 911's since 2002, when my kids were 3 and 7. It's totally doable as long as it's not the primary kid hauling vehicle. It's fine for short trips to school, soccer etc but less than ideal for longer hauls. Interestingly, the size of the back seats has only become an issue recently now that my younger son and his friends are grown, but not quite yet driving age. Still, his friends only complain a little when I stick one of them back there after soccer practice.
I currently have a C4 997 and I throw on snow tires during the winter. (Store the non-used tires at Ashland Tire) I leave it in the garage only a couple of days per winter. The limitation is the depth of snow in the Chicago alleys, as the main streets are plowed quickly.

I've got 6 and an 8 year old boys and they both still fit in my 991 cab. No sweat. I think they should make it till 10 anyway. You've got lots of time with your little ones. Go for it!
