I believe the cars are transported with the lip uninstalled, it should have been installed when it arrived at the dealership.
Sooo - on second look, now that I know what I am looking for, the sport design bumper was added after those pictures. Perhaps they removed it so they would not scrape it. Leave that to me - man, that thing is low! Any tips on avoiding scraping it besides exiting ramps at an angle or getting the suspension elevator? I am already needing to touch up the bottom. Thanks again fellow Rennlisters - you all are awesome!
sadly no, it will scrape usually on driveway entry/exit, the only way you can
avoid it is to try and approach at an angle to reduce the 'angle of approach'
others have tried clear bra wrapping it ... I bought a couple of extras and got them painted...
Thanks for your kind words. I have now had the car for a year. I have put on 11,000 glorious miles. It is my daily driver. Like many of you, I look for any excuse to get in my car and drive. I recently added the SmartTop convertible top modification. It is a game-changer being able to put the top up and down with the touch of a button and being able to open the top remotely with the key fob.
As some of you know, I have - thus far - been unable to figure out a way to swap out the rear center grill for a rear center tail light, but the quest continues...
Some of my favorite qualities of the car: The gorgeous roar of the NA engine and the way the engine crescendos as I push it above 5,000 RPMs in manual mode; The Jekyll and Hyde nature of the car - it is a very comfortable daily driver in normal mode with PSE off and with the sport chassis off (I have the sport chassis on at all times except when I am cruising long distances on the highway). But when I am in the mood for sporty driving, oh boy, it is a blast to let the beast out of the cage. The car is simply incredible to drive in manual mode with Sport Plus activated and with PSE engaged. Having the top down only heightens the sensory experience - the sound of the glorious 430 hp NA engine and even the smell of the engine as I push it. I have been impressed with the car's "fuel economy" in normal mode/seventh gear on the highway - I drove from LA to Vegas (250 miles) on about 3/4 of a tank. In my prior sports car (Jaguar XK-R), I would have had to stop for gas on the way (it is a V-8 with 550 hp). I have also been blown away by the car's cornering ability. I previously had a base 991.1 cab which was a blast to drive but nowhere near the technical marvel that is my GTS. I attribute that to several factors: The lowered chassis, the wider wheelbase in the derrier, the wider wheels, and PDCC. It seems the faster I drive the car, the more planted it becomes.
I saw the other thread about how 911 sales are down for 2016. I was one of the people who moved up to a new 911 earlier than I had planned because I was suspicious that the 991.1 GTS would be the last of the naturally aspirated variety. I am sure the 991.2 GTS will be a beast but I am firmly in the NA engine camp and I hope to pass this car down to my children (if I ever have any!) someday.
In summary, the 911 engineers in Stuttgart were on their game when they designed the 991.1 GTS. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
