I also love mine, use it all the time except in stop and go traffic. Freaked out my girlfriend the first time it shut the engine off.

Almost got killed by this feature. I was at one of those "aroundabouts", stopped and trying to get out, almost at the same time I stepped on the gas the engine stopped. Car had no response for half a second, engine finally restarted. Luckily, the other car slowed down but he probably has a story to tell his friends afterward.

Thank goodness with the 991.1 you can have it off at all times. On the 991.2, you will need to press the button off at every start up.
Didn't even know the cars could do this! I completely agree on the annoying nature of it.

Great minds clearly think alike! My reading time took place from 1-3am last night. Seemed logical to get the manual out of the glove box for a quick and through, "complete" once over in my robe and slippers. Learned a lot and confirmed I knew a lot. The highlight of the day was a spirited drive on RT 35 near Alice's Restaurant. I was with a bud putting the GTS through its paces and got a bit aggressive and fish tailed / drifted a bit on a hard left hander. Quite the moment.

Or in manual mode...

Mine stopped working yesterday, don't care. The most annoying feature in my opinion is the "Hold" function with a manual transmission. I have been trying to become accustomed to it but when there is some stressful traffic it just plain sux. Having to first check to see if it is on so I can then take my foot of the brake and then I have to remember to let the clutch out slowly. There needs to be a button to turn that feature off.

You can thank the European environmental police for this one. They fine people for idling too long and somehow think the miniscule gas reduction will save the planet. Same thing for no remote start - not allowed over there, so we don't get it over here either. Thankfully my 911 has the coldest A/C of any car I have ever owned - very nice for the summer here in AZ where grabbing the steering wheel in July can fry your skin!

Agree the AC is great tho not as intuitive as previous 911s. As for the hot steering wheel, I really recommend the Porsche wind screen shade😄!

Horrible feature to me - I have it on my current car and thank God it remembers the last saved setting to stay off. Glad to hear you can set it off on the 991.1 - in my mind it cant be good for the car starting and stopping it constantly.

This EXACT same thing happened to me in my loaner P-car.
The damn engine shut off as I was rolling to a stop at a yield sign, and when I went to put down my foot nothing happened!! It felt like an eternity for the engine to fire back up and deliver power to the wheels.

With the Auto-stop function setup so aggressively to shut off the engine, this can potentially lead to a very dangerous situation.

To the OP, did they perform any software updates on your car?

Unless you're a super model in her bra and panties you should get out of the car. It's good exercise. On second thought, I want the super model in bra and panties to get out too :-)

If you use start/stop you will save some gas. The money saved will not even come close to replacing the beefed up starter and battery...you will be way behind.

Start/stop is there to squeeze a few extra tenths out so the manufacturer can claim higher across the line mpg to meet standards and will save you a few pennies. They will not be there to help you out on paying for your new starter/battery. Bottom line...you lose if you use it.

If a difference of 1 MPG was really that important to me, I would not be driving a 430 HP beast. Additionally, I work in the O&G industry so hope everyone turns this feature off all the time!
