Mate,

I was there too: it was phuckin' awful on Sat - but perhaps the best race of the year on Sun. Even in the Main Grandstand one was pelted by rain at the top level; as the winds made the weather roll in in force.

Appreciate the post re your 911's 'redemption'. I am certainly ascertaining now much additional protection is sufficient. Your car looks terrific!

I gotta be honest, paint "correction" scares me a bit.

If you take ownership of a car with obvious abuse - swirls, spiderwebs etc in the clear coat - I get it.

But I wouldn't take a car out for a "correction" on a whim, or after getting it wet and/or dirty. And I wouldn't do it unless I had a visual reason to do it.

I've seen people "correct" paint simply because it's thicker on one side of the car than the other (as measured with a paint meter.) This is crazy to me! After all, a "correction" is a permanent removal of paint.

It can have dramatic results when it's necessary, no doubt about it. I just hope people realize this is not a weekly detail kind of operation. It's an operation you hopefully do once and only once.

A lot of wrong information on your post.

First, on a 991, there is NO removal of paint with a proper paint correction. Only clear coat. We're talking microns here.

Second, our cars can receive a proper paint correction, well within safety parameters, about 25 times. So, for example, a proper paint correction and nano coating like OptiCoat Pro, done every other year (what I have had done in early 2014 and again in late 2015.....2 driving seasons) will allow an owner over 50 years worth of outstanding appearance and coating performance.

Well, removal of clear coat (which is a kind of paint) is what I meant. It gives me the heebie jeebies to sand it off once, much less 25 times. But to each his own!

Your car looks Guards Red. Have you ever seen a Guards Red car with a professional paint correction? It's freaking amazing.

It is indeed! Fortunately for me, the car came to me with the best used paint I've ever seen. I'm talking amazing, no swirls or webs of any kind. (Sadly a few "dealer washes" since I got it have fixed that.)

I am a Zaino person and "build up" the clear coat using multiple coats of Z-5. This too looks amazing!

Paint correction will remove the majority of scratches, swirls, holograms, etc. A polish will only remove very light defects.

Here are some before and after pictures of a 'full' paint correction. (compound/heavy polish and a light/finishing polish after) The complete process is very lengthy and time consuming. My average amount of time spent on a car-991 size-is approximately 10-12 hours. I have spent in excess of 20 hours correcting the paint on certain vehicles.

Onto the pics:

^^^this is after the first step of 'compounding' or 'heavy polishing'. You can still see a bit of haze left over from the process. There will be some more initial passes and then one to several passes to 'finish' the panel.

A Maserati I just did:

Before: you can see the swirl marks here. Paint is dull and almost lifeless. The metallic flake is not popping at all.

Scratches and swirls:

Finished with nothing but blue sky and clouds reflecting in the paint!

To show the results on something other than a dark colored vehicle:

I apologize for the lengthy post! This is a subject near and dear to my heart!

I hope this helps shed some light on the mysteries of paint correction and detailing!

If anyone has any additional questions or would like more info, I am happy to help!

I am just trying to shed some light on the subject. It is a mystery to a lot of people. Most think that a basic wash/wax or run through the car wash (!!!!!) is the 'proper' process to 'detail' a vehicle. It is better than doing nothing at all, however, it is a far cry from the correct manner in which to keep your vehicle's finish looking better than new/from the factory!

Again, hope this helps some of our forum people!

Thanks for the great photos Sizzle, I'm sold. I think I'll make the call this week.
