Default Jacking the Rear of the Car

Is it possible to jack the rear of the car (a bit) at the oil pan to fit jack stands at the jack points? Could this cause wear to the engine mounts?

Thanks

cy, What exactly are trying to do ? There is a pretty stout aluminum cross brace in front of the oil pan I've used a few times without repercussions. T

Just trying to life the car a small amount to get pads under lift arms (which are a bit too thick for the ground clearance of the car). I've watched mechanics lift 911s from the rear a bit like this. Does it cause damage? Thanks

Drive up on 2x12s. I would not lift from the aluminum oil pan.

Agree with Larry, the Jackpoints are well worth the money and work flawlessly. My car up on them when I was swapping exhausts.

Like Lex said, do not jack at the oil pan. If you need to put the car up on jack stands, you have a couple of alternatives. Jack from the brace just forward of the oil pan and put stands under the jacking "pads", or jack from the pads and place the stands under the brace, just inboard of the bolt for the control arms.

And be careful.
At the risk of stating the obvious, use ebrake, wheel blocs, and ensure there is no movement.
Too many horror stories about cars falling on people.

I once jacked my .1 GT3 from the rear of the car, I made the mistake of not
positioning the jack 'square' to the length/width of the car.

I was lucky I had the wheels off, and a jackstand under one of the rear control
arms, when the weight of the car on the jack caused it to twist (because it
was not square with the car) and it nearly fell off the jack but it landed on the
jackstand ... phew!

that's why I now love the jackpoint jackstands ... it takes the risk out of getting
the car on stands, and frankly once its on the stands, there is MUCH LESS risk
of the car falling off the jackpoint stands than the 'old' style

DO NOT life on the oil pan!

I use 2x4's and just one jack point. The chassis is so stiff that the whole side will go up and you can place jack stands in place.

Thanks for all of the advice - it's extremely helpful as usual. The mechanic said that he had done it to the car before (to just lift the car up an inch or so to get the lift arms to the jack points. Do I need to worry about any damage, and if so, to what? I'll now make sure that it never happens again.

Thanks
