Default Winter Storage

I've read many of the suggestions on winter storage but have not seen this issue addressed:

Is it considered preferable to store the car until the weather is decent enough o drive in, or is it preferable to get it out at least monthly on a clear day? The reason I have heard for getting it out monthly is to ensure the seals don't dry out, but I have a hard time buying that seals will dry out if the car sits for 4 or 5 months.

And if it helps, I have a 2012 991 Carrera.

Thanks!

unless you plan to get the car FULLY up to operating temp, just leave it sit. Add in that you will have salt etc on the underside... if I put a car away for winter storage, I put it away, and LEAVE it away.

Mine goes in next week. Up here, it stays in for the winter - usually out by late March or early April. I change oil, inflate the tires to 50 lbs, put on a battery tender, cover, look forward to Spring.

I've been storing Porsches for many years from mid October till mid March. Heated garages to unheated warehouses. Air cooled to water cooled. Once they are in hibernation, I don't touch them till the first drive in the spring.

All maintenance up to date. Concours level full detail. Fuel full & stabilized. Desiccant in the cabin. Battery maintainer. Tires to 55-58 PSI. Car cover. Done.

Why are you storing a car for the 'winter' in Sacramento, California? Are you actually located up near Tahoe, above the snow line? The best driving days of the year out here in California are mid winter. Crisp, sunny 'winter' days, 45 degrees, no/low tourist traffic in the mountain and coast roads. My favorite time of the year from a driving perspective.

I store mine on the highways, roads and streets during the winter. The 911 is a great winter driver. A good set of winter tires and some self control. 3 winters (Previous 997), never had an issue in Chicago winters. I used to live in Iowa. Those winters are milder. I would have no issues driving it in the winter there.

You own it, have fun with it. What are you saving it for, the next owner?

just my 2 cents

Seals is an issue for very long term storage, a few months on a new car is ok but more of an issue for older cars stored over long periods.

Neutral. Wheels chocked. Move it by hand every month about 6-8". Less flat spotting. Yes I know. Reversible. But still.

Is it an option to put the car on jack stands to avoid flat sporting?
