I bumped into Andreas Preuniger himself at RSR-V yesterday and chatted with him for a few moments, when I told him that I would not be upgrading from my 2010 "Mezger" GT3 he said, and I quote: "maybe we will have something for you next year..."

Also, flappy paddles are for grandmas, except when they're not. The chocolate ration will be doubled yesterday and halved today. We have always been at war with Volkswagen.

I spoke with a 918 owner who claims that his contact inside Porsche says they'll be building 200 Porsche 911R cars. The emphasis is on lightweight and the enthusiast (manual, normally aspirated, minimal options). Sounds like the 911 version of the GT4/Spyder. Otherwise light on details but it matches what we have been discussing and there is precedent in the limited run of 997 Sport Classics and Speedsters. Unfortunately, my guess is that it will also be priced similarly to the Sport Classic and Speedster as the weight savings and homologation of a n/a motor will drive up prices while the rareness will make them scarce and hard to come by. At least to me it seems unlikely that this will be an attainable car for the rest of us.

When you read through the link (thanks!) one thing pops out. While Preuniger might want to have "something for you next year", what ever that "something" is has to go through committee (s) and be approved by who knows how many people. In the interim, tooling around in a 2010 GT3 makes waiting and hoping a whole lot easier!!!

AP is a great speaker and crowd pleaser. But I won't hold my breath on a manual 911 GT car. He said that the GT4 demand opened their eyes, but somehow, I don't believe that given they knew about how the 997 GT3 prices soared once the announcement of the PDK only GT3 came out.

most if not all of the world's 918 owners of the " 918 Spyder " will vacuum up these 911Rs as an investible , hide away , side benefit if it is truly limited to 200 and they get first dibs .......seems like the ultimate car to " blue ball " 911 true believer gear heads who long for a simpler , last chance " old school era " factory spec car ....how does that build loyalty and enthusiasm ...it is not then an intended halo car ...it becomes just another " 0.01% er " stratifier bauble , imo
look at the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 ...of the thousands of recent 997/991 911s of all makes , models and colors at RRV ..I saw them all except this one, even as a static display ...they are probably viewed as cars going up and up in value as we speak ....

easy peasy ..factory makes $$$ of extra marginal profit for little , if any , research expenditure since they are 1) decontenting and 2) cobbling together " old " parts off the shelf ...then its first " worthy " owners make their even larger $$$$ flipping or holding....the MOST expensive part on this model from a buyers standpoint , really , will be the 5 cent " R " sticker that will be applied on the rear deck !
