Default Should I trade my 997 GTS for 991 GTS??

Hi Everyone,

So I know I'm posting in the 991 area thus I know the responses maybe a little bias however, I'm seriously considering trading in my 2011 GTS for a 2016 991 GTS.

I wanted to know those who had both or currently a 991 GTS, what your impressions are of each and is there a big enough difference from the 997 to the 991 to justify the switch?

Some background on me, I race semi-professionally so I know (at least I think I know haha) how to drive these cars (in all modesty and honesty). I have taken my 997 GTS on the track a few times and will probably do the same with the 991 GTS. However, this will NOT be a regular track car probably 3-4 times a year. My current 997 is a 6 speed manual and I'm probably leaning towards the 7 speed manual for the 991.

So my questions are the following:

1) I thought PASM came standard on the GTS but I saw that as an option?
2) If you do not get the smoking package does this mean there is no cigarette power adapter in the car?
3) Does the standard radio come with bluetooth and how much of a difference in sound quality is there between the Bose vs. standard radio?

Thank you to all that responds to this post

Best

1) PASM is standard on the S model. Sport PASM is an option, though.

2) smoking package gives you the clean center console look with the little door. There is always the cigarette lighter outlet in the passenger footwell.

PASM is standard on the GTS

Sport PASM is the option which drops it an additional 10mm. A great option in my opinion. Although, only available in the coupe and not the cabriolets.

Like Lex mentioned, outlet in the footwell and USB port in the glove box for your phone/music.

Seeing you're a car guy, I'd test drive the 991. You'll get all sort of opinions that won't mean as much as a 1/2 hr test drive. As you know, everyone has an opinion here!

Bose is worth the extra $$. Especially good for resale if that matters.

In addition to what has been said here, I traded my 2012 997 GTS on my current 991 GTS. For me, I like about everything about the 991 GTS better than my 997 GTS. That's saying a lot since I loved my 997 GTS and thought I might keep it forever. They are both great cars, but I do like the 991 GTS better. The 4 inch longer wheelbase and 2 inch wider front track on the 991 dramatically improve the stability and handling of the 991 over the 997.

Wow, 15 pages... Test drive both and buy the one you like. Thank goodness for freedom of choice. Either are great cars.

I traded my 997 for a 991 GTS recently. There is a night and day difference between the cars. The GTS is probably the best non-turbo ever produced by Porsche. I recommend moving quickly as allocations are running out and dealers ability to order are starting to be limited. The 991 GTS is the best Porsche I have ever owned.

Thank you all for your reply,

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger and I'm now considering ordering one for European Delivery, any suggestions on where to pick up from Zuffenhausen or Leipzig?

thank you again everyone!

ZUFFENHAUSEN! for factory and museum tours\

better get onto it ... AFIAK GTS production is "over" so you need a dealer with an open allocation (that will do ED, which I dont think they do between Oct-Apr)

I love my 991 GTS. The speed, the handling, the sound are all incredible. The exhaust note is unreal. It looks great with the black accents everywhere. The interior looks beautiful and has a race car feel with the alcantara if you choose that option.

I don't have a previous gen GTS to compare this to. I had a 991 C2 prior. However the GTS compared to the C2 is like night and day.

I am also a new owner of a 2015 991 GTS PDK PASM. I have never been so excited about a car than with this one. I came from driving BMW V8 M3 and M4. I am still under break in shifting at 4200rpm and I can't wait to use the full band.
1. Regarding PASM, that's what I have and I have scrapped several times on deep driveways, I can't imagine being lower without a front lift.
2. I have the smoking package and I don't see the use of it unless you smoke. I thought that I would use it to plug in my radar detector but since is so far back it would not be practical, besides this car doesn't deserve any hanging wires. I fix the issue hardwiring to the rearview mirror thru mirrortap.
3. I have Bose and I think it sounds real good, I think they improved it over the previous versions. I would select the Bose option. You can upgrade the tweeters later for the Burmeister ones.

I wanted to own the last NA engine and keep the car for a long time, but you can wait for another year for the next GTS Turbo with the latest technology and improvements. I would not hesitate to get a GTS with the latest manual transmission. Here is a good review about the GTS MT.

1. Get the Sport PASM.
2. Smoking Package is cleaner.
3. I have the standard audio. It comes with BT. The sound is decent, IMHO. The engine sound is sweeter and I seldom listen to the audio anyway.

Boy it is nice to read this thread and hear from folks like GSIRM who have had both. I was starting to panic about getting rid of my 997! For Choy and the people who have SPASM, how low is it with the front aerokit, and do you have to worry about scraping on every driveway and street defect?
