I had a 997 GTS (MT) and now own a 991 GTS (PDK)

The 997 felt much more like a sports car. I loved the 6-speed MT, the direct steering, the cosy interior with its superior ergonomics, the compact car. The 991 is more comfortable, more stable and certainly the better car for driving long distances. However, I had more fun in the 997. I tried the 991 with a MT but disliked the 7-speed gear box: No gear ever felt right and so I got it as a PDK. The PDK works perfectly, but at the cost of reducing driver involvement.

I wish I had stayed with my 997 GTS. I liked it much more - even if the 991 GTS is a better car in many ways.

I have SPASM on my 991 GTS and also had it on my 997 GTS. I didn't/don't have any issues with scraping, but am careful on angles I take over bumps and driveways.

Interesting. I have a 991 C2S (SPASM) with the Sport lip and scrape on many driveways, even when navigating them at an angle. Too fast over certain dips in the road and the same thing happens.

OP, scraping on driveways and dips in the road will most likelyhappen with the lowered SPASM car. Can one minimize to some degree? Sure.

You do have to be careful, and if you don't you can even scrape a non SPASM car. But, I never once scraped the front lower lip of my SPASM equipped 997 GTS, or to date, my 991 GTS with SPASM. I had my 997 GTS for almost 4 years and the lower lip looked just like it did when I brought it home from the dealer, i.e, perfect. The entrance to my old office was steep, but if I took it at a 45 degree angle, it never scraped. Just have to be careful.

I don't own the cars in question, but I have extensive seat time in them. That said I couldn't agree with you more, the 997 was a rawer and more rewarding, smaller and more nimble. Changing lanes with the 997 was done sometimes with the throttle, really fun and engaging. The 991 was just a rocket with a bit of sterility.

Thanks guys for the input on the scraping issues. Sorry OP for the off topic. I am glad I am not going from a 997 GTS as this appears to be such a great car. I am hoping to at least match the sportiness of my now 11 year old C2S with a new GTS!

Best idea to keep the 997 and get the 991. You can always sell your 997 at a later point if you find you no longer want it.

If you have room in the garage, why not?

I went from a 997.2 GTS to a 991 GTS and couldn't be happier. Loved the 997.2 and while there are a few things I preferred in the 997.2, not regretting my decision at all.

However, if you do have ability to keep the 997.2 GTS, I would definitely look at either a used 991 Turbo or a Cayman GT4 (GT4 if you want to stick with the NA route) which would be in the same price range if not less than the 991 GTS.

While I think the two 997.2/991 GTS's are both great cars, if you could go with two cars, you should mix things up a bit more.

edit: See https://rennlist.com/forums/991/8761...l#post12335941 for my comparison of the cars.

Had both

Enjoyed both. Can't go wrong with either.

Loved the intimate feel of the 997 interior. Windshield closer to the driver and I could see the fenders very well. Nice to have a mechanical parking brake.

991 bigger inside and out but very nimble. It is less upset by road imperfections but still is very much connected to the road in sport and sport +. Better exhaust note (IMO). I know there is a anti-sunroof bias here on RL but I really am enjoying my glass sunroof.

Followed your Germany thread and just got back today. Did the factory tour and had one the best meals on the trip in the Christophorus restaurant.
