New PCM retrofit

New PCM retrofit
I am curious if we will be able to retrofit the new PCM.
I mean, I don't really care if it can't talk to the existing GPS etc, as I would use my phone's GPS anyways.
The form factor should be the same, it will be interesting to see if our cars can be coded or even needed to be coded to accept it.
I would pay the $3k for the upgrade. As I am sure you can sell old PCM's for about $1k on the used market.
I'd love to get thoughts from folks more intimate with the electronics in our cars.

I have a .1 on order so I would love to hear that it would be possible. That being said, I'm not going to hold my breath. I know it's not a 991 but over on 6 speed there is a giant thread about trying to retrofit a newer PCM in the 997. It's possible, but it's not easy or cheap by any means.

New PCM retrofit
I've read there will be a software update available, but just like the steering wheel, Porsche will make it near impossible for obvious marketing reasons. Want the new? Buy the new car. Understandable.

It will be interesting to see how the wiring on the back end match up to the current PCM. Obviously the form factor will be ok, as the center console appears unchanged.
There are obviously integrations from the Multifunction display to the PCM, maybe an external GPS, and sport chrono. I assume these inputs/outputs shouldn't change.
At the the end of the day it's a 12 volt radio. Assuming you have an iphone, losing the multifunction display for radio and onboard GPS is not a huge issue for me. It's the crazy error codes that would drive me nuts.
Also losing the sport display would not be a deal killer for me. I am sure someone will be able to build a harness to match power/remote/ground and possible inputs for sport chrono external GPS and outputs to multifunction display. I guess there are also outputs to the amplifiers for the stereo too.
What else would we be missing?
Anyways, we won't 100% know until someone tries to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if someone hacks it to make it happen
