well first of all I bought a Autel TS401 TPMS reader (for around $80) to check that the sensors were
working, which they were (or the Autel activated them).
Secondly, instead of initiating learning mode in the garage, next to another car with TPMS on it, I did it
on the street ... I think that the vicinity to the other car might have been an issue.
lastly, I reset the wheel type, I think this forced the car into TPMS learning mode perhaps clearing
any saved TPMS ids then reset the load type ... literally the sensors showed up within 30 seconds
of doing that ... I dont think I even exceeded 20mph before they registered!

I think that not being close to another car *and* changing the wheel setting and not just the 'load' probably cleared the car and put it into learning mode.
I wish I didn't have to buy the Autel but I needed to OCD check that the sensors were functional! - I'm not sure if using the reader actually activated
the sensors or not...
If you want, I'll pop the reader in the mail to you ...

Let me try what you did first...I am also next to other cars and/or my other wheels actually that might be the problem.

I'm a slow learner! I missed the part about toggling the wheel type! doh!
I think this was key, I think just changing the load type did not 'flush' the TPMS ID's of the existing wheels, I think toggling the wheel type did that...

Didnt want to go and start another TPMS thread, just trying to learn as much about the 991.1 as I approach delivery. Curious, does the Porsche TPMS system give individual readouts for each tire pressure standard?
My current car does, but had to have the software re-programmed to do so.

Not in front of my manual, but Ive actually yet to lower my tire PSI. IIRC the 991 has multiple settings - so does that mean if you pick say comfort, you need to be at that psi in order to not trigger a warning? Or does it work in a fashion that as long as you are in one of the psi bands (comfort, sport) it wont trigger a warning. This is my first car which offers different TPMS settings, all my other cars pretty much worked off the four wheels working/turning in sync i believe.
