Default 991 PDK / GT3 PDK

Just curious. Are the 2015 PDK transmissions in the GT3 and the 991 Carrera the same ?
Thanks

That's my understanding as well, that it's called PDK-S, with different gearing and quicker shifts, among other things.

As mentioned above, it's the programming that makes a big difference. The regular PDK in my Carrera S will, on occasion, automatically downshift while accelerating at full throttle out of a corner on the track if it senses that the revs are too low (which may be as high as 5000 rpm). It does this while in "full manual" mode. Needless to say it's surprising and disconcerting to have this happen at speed on the track when you're not expecting it. Makes me nuts. There may be a reason why I'm choosing to exit a corner at 5000 rpm instead of 6500 rpm, but the PDK computer won't allow me to leave it in 3rd instead of downshifting to 2nd.

From what I understand, PDK-S in the GT3 does NOT do this. It allows true, full manual control via the paddles. This in itself is reason enough to get a GT3 if you're tracking.

You say this happens at full throttle... any chance you are inadvertently pushing down the kickdown switch?

I have never experienced in M-mode an auto-actuated downshift at that rev range. If the kickdown switch is actuated, sure.

The changes are numerous. Very numerous. Mechanical and software.

Fellow Rennlister Mike in CA details it in this previous post here:

Is it true that the directions on the stick are reversed as well? (As in: GT3 downshift = pushing forward, aka the right way)

Yes. But contrary to common wisdom that is conventional and one adapts to either approach. The inertia argument may not apply.

That alone is worth to upgrade, especially for those who are used to driving the correct pattern on track or ride a motorcycle.

I bet a lot of 991.1 owner will fit a way to retro fit the new shifter assembly as well to fix.

The standard is the reverse. Think it's clear that porsche is throwing in the towel as the gt3 now has it the correct way. I wonder if there is a kit out there. Seems like a big deal to,change the direction.

I guess I'm not the only one who has forgotten it's not in manual and throws it in neutral at high revs every now and then

I am afraid that throwing it in N because you forgot the lever is in D, is not going to change even when the 'standard direction' becomes the Porsche default...
