I think they looked at their past.

Have you driven a turbo charged 911 Porsche? Especially a water cooled version?
Of course I'm not saying that turbo's aren't trackable/DE-able/autocrossable, and I'm not trying to be cryptic with my post. As I'm sure you know, assuming equal power, the NA application tends to be favoured by track enthusiasts (myself included) due to the throttle response and even torque curve.

I have never owned a turbo Porsche, and most of my turbo driving experience comes from Japanese makes (Subaru, Toyota). I have had the pleasure of driving and riding along in a 997 Turbo, and that car was a complete monster -- A bully on the straight-aways. Astounding power when all spooled up and mated to the 997 chassis made the car very enjoyable.

The pleasure I get from tracking is mostly when throttle balancing the car through the bendy bits, not just grunt on the straights nor necessarily setting the fastest lap time. The transition from braking to throttle application is much smoother in the NA cars (esp my 991) compared to the turbos I've driven.

I was chatting to a new M4 owner and even he conceded that the mid corner turbo lag is there despite BMW excellent application of TT tech, and he was a bit let down. His lap times didn't suffer, though, as the hp on the straights made up for mid-corner time.

What ever puts a smile on your face. Turbos can be heaps of fun and I'm sure that Porsche's TT tech will minimize the lag and torque bumps.

I don't follow you. Those slats are horizontal and the exhaust treatment is completely different.

Yes. The Aztec's name was Irwin Komenda.

His vertical slats (featured on 356s) and the ever classic Porsche shape are available for you when you Google: Rome Berlin Coupe

I would not be surprised if the vertical grille was chosen in order to improve airflow to the engine.

Actually that's the reasoning that Porsche offered for the vertical grill.
