Default How does PSE in normal mode compare to non-PSE exhaust volume?

Hi, I'm curious about how the PSE when OFF compares to non-PSE exhaust in terms of volume? Is it louder or the same?

Thanks!

I think the PSE turns itself on when you go over a certain amount of RPM. Under that, they should be about the same.

PSE has a different center can in the 991.1 cars, side mufflers are the same. So its going to have more tone than the stock one.

The PSE exhaust automatically turns on and the dampers open on their own above a certain RPM range whether the button is "on" or not.

If you're driving at speeds of 30MPH and not above 4K RPM they will be very similar if the PSE is off.

At idle, a non-PSE and PSE (in off position) will sound very similar. Start driving, and the difference is noticeable.

I personally like the PSE button in the "on" position 98% of the time. Gives you that great sound even at slow speeds and through traffic in the low RPM ranges.

Make sense?

Ok great. Any other thoughts about whether to consider a dealer add of PSE to a car that's on the lot?

I was thinking of trying to get the dealer to discount it somewhat by making it part of the negotiation vs. waiting and doing it later on its own.

Very easy for the dealer to add on a PSE. Needs a new interior switch unit too. They'll have it all covered. One of those options that can be added on easily. If just get it done right away. Keep the old tips and exhaust. You can always get like $300 for it on eBay. I know, not much! That's the going rate.

By the way, on the S model, only the center muffler gets changed when upgrading to a PSE. The side ones behind the rear tires stay!

On a base model Carrera, all three mufflers get changed when upgrading to a PSE

Cool. I'm guessing that the valve issues I read about with the PSE from like 2012/13 models got sorted.. anyone know of regrets getting PSE?

Dealer install shouldn't be more than $800

If anything, order the parts and get dealer quotes to install if they can't match the price.

The PSE two center mufflers. They replace the single S model center muffler.

One of the two side mufflers behind the rear wheels. Those stay on the S model. The round thing next to the muffler is a catalytic converter.

Shop around for the best deal on the PSE, as the difference between dealers can be huge. Some have gotten it done for as low as $3k, while others have paid over $5k. I paid $3,500 here in Northern California, but also I had dealers wanting $4,700 to do it.

if you turn the car off with PSE on, does it stay on or default back to off? Half the fun of a sport exhaust is the "bark" you get when you start the car.

The switch is off when you restart, however, my understanding is, that with PSE turned off, the valves still open at startup/idle and above 4k RPM. But they don't open when you're actually driving below 4k rpm. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.

Defaults back to off. Car still sounds sweet at start up.

Not sure if there is a difference if you hit the button "on" while turning the key at the point where the radio turns on before actually starting the engine though! Have to try that.

I had it added to my C2S about 4 weeks ago for $3K plus tax.
Love it.
Comes on automatically when you depress the sport button.
I only turn it off if I'm on the interstate for a longer drive.
