Aluminum Look Gas Cap Install??
#151
I just installed the cap as well. I had it on my Turbo S and didn't want to miss it on the new-to-me GT3.
I read the entire thread beforehand and one thing nobody mentioned was that the shape of the stud "mushroom" cap aids in installation.
As you can see in the picture below, the back of the cap is shaved off allowing easily installation of the loop from top/bottom.

If you are installing one of these in the summer my experience has been that the tether material is fairly flexible. You can use some soapy water on the peg and some careful tugging will have the old one off. Installing the new one is just the reverse. In the winter you might need a little heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to make the material more flexible. YMMV

Looks like there's two versions offered now as I have a newer faux aluminum+black gas cap on my 2022 Cayenne, and there's the older all silver color faux aluminum one that's been posted here a bunch as a heads up
Just purchased the older all silver one for my 991 50th

This could be the dumbest $300+ I've spent, but why not have an alu-look gas cap for both Porsches? Install on the 991.2 and 971 G2 Panamera were both easy. Just used needle nose pliers to pull off the old tether from the pin, and then put the new one on using the pliers to pull it into place over the pin.
Aluminum-look cap on 991.2 (don't worry - removed to put back in so Porsche was right-side-up)
In it's refueling spot
Had to get one for Panamera, too
