WTK How safe is a 911 in a severe accident
Just out of curiosity I was wondering how safe the 911s are in a bad accident on average. I know they are on the lighter side of course but I as well know they are engineered very well. I know many factors play into that question, speed etc. But I am just wondering on average if they are tougher than most from the rest in the same category of car.
Does anyone know if they go above and beyond other top brands for safety features. I know they have gobs of airbags but I am just trying to learn the car inside out. Thanks

All you're going to find is anecdotal data, as I don't believe Porsche submits its vehicles for IIHS testing and rating. They are well designed for safety, but physics are a bitch. I'd much rather be in my Avalanche than my 911 in a severe accident. If safety were my primary concern, a lightweight sports car would not be my vehicle of choice.

And Archimedes I agree with you. I would rather be in something with a lot more mass as well if it came to that, god forbid. But yes, I was trying to find crash standards and couldn't find anything. And this is just a curiosity thing so I can learn all I can about the car. Thanks for you input.

U know what you are correct and that was an ill statement on my point. Should have said design plays a huge role as well as modified metals and or composites. Thanks for that excellent post Chuck

Gathering from all the Porsche related accidents like Paul walker and others I've seen on YouTube, it's safe to say that you WILL die in a Porsche accident

Insurance companies must think they are pretty safe. They are not that expensive to insure. One way to look at it.

Stuff happens ...in urban areas , most injury accidents occur at intersections ( such as completing left turns or missing a STOP sign ) so whether you drive a Porsche or a Cadillac Escalade , these is not much difference in side impact protection.
if you drive mostly rural two lanes at all hours , yeah, you'd probably be better off behind the wheel of a Ford F350 Dualie in the typical head -on with a drunkard than any low slung sports car .

Here's a Boxster Crash, I would expect a 991 to be similar.
