Default Driver seat bolster wear

Would significant bolster wear on the driver's seat of a low mileage (<15k) car influence your buying decision if everything else about the car checked out? Would you be comfortable with a re-dye/reconditioning of the area?

What color??

Shouldn't be a big deal or concern.

This is a big red flag. Next thing you know you'll notice scratches behind the door handle. Finger prints on the glass. Walk away. Don't even bother checking the door sill. Just… walk away.

I checked the door sill and even the door panels. They are fine.

Scratches behind the door handle would be the end of me. I'm the sort that carries a microfiber towel with me just to open and close the door.

Color is light grey.

I have 6,300 miles on mine and have one spot of light bolster wear. I wouldn't worry about it at all if everything else checks out good.

I believe you missed the sarcasm......lol

I'm in the leather furniture business. For more than you probably ever want to know about leather wear and repair, you can read a few threads here if you like:

I didn't. There was sarcasm in my response about the door handles.

Thanks for the links.

I think bolster wear is inevitable, especially with the 18-way seats. My garnet red side bolsters look pretty well worn and I've got less than 6,000 miles on my car!

Why I like the 14 ways better. Easier in/out and no wear

Maybe a coat of Zaino Z10 or look into the products at colorplus.com.

Replace the seat cover.
Its a small price to pay to enjoy the car in clean condition.
At 27K, I don't have any bolster wear on my 18 ways.
You should not either, with your new seat cover.

Any idea what this costs?

Bolster wear is not inevitable. I have seen cars with less than 5000 miles with bolster wear. Because of belts and jeans. However it is simple to prevent. I have an 89 930 turbo with an original beige interior with no bolster wear. John Paterek national Porsche judge and restoration shop taught our Porsche Club a simple trick to prevent bolster wear and it works. Before you get into your car place your left hand on the bolster and as you rotate into the car to sit down rub your *** and hips against your arm and hand and sit down. No bolster wear if your body does not rub against it. I have done it for over 20 years and it is automatic for me I do it in all my cars. My seats look great.
