Snow/winter tires.
Just ordered a 2016 GTS with PDK and 5 lug Carrera wheels.
I will be a daily driver on Long Island, N.Y.
It comes with Pirelli tires. Will use in summer and 2-3 track days/year.
What winter tires, for rain and light snow do you recommend?
Obviously, not for 3 foot snow drifts.
Porsche will not allow a change in tires, will get them from tire rack.
Don't say "chains".

I will be driving through snow drifts !! I recieved my GTS Cab a month and a half ago and will be ordering snow combo for fall soon.... I plan to use blizzaks like I did with my old M3 cab.
Worked great on that car ( even with 3 ft snow drifts ). ��

I also am interested in feedback about winter tires doc. I'm in Long Island and will be driving through most of the winter. I WILL park it in the garage crazycanuk in 3 foot snow drifts though. I currently have 20's, what do I go to 19's, 18's? Rims? Thoughts and experiences?

Check out Suncoast - they have Porsche 991 winter 19" rims and tires on sale for around $2,100 - half price! 19" tires are Pirelli. Recommended 20" tires are Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4, which I run.

I bought Michelin Alpins for my TT and had zero problems in snow or rain. I picked the car up in the snow and had the dealer put the Alpins on the stock wheels (20") prior to delivery. I have the Pirellis on a set of 20" Finspeeds for summer.

My understanding is that there are only two options for full-on snow tires with the 20" OE wheels on the 991. I don't think blizzaks are an option or approved fitment (I'm sure someone will correct me). If you go down in wheel diam to 19" there are more options.
I personally have a dedicated winter setup for the PA winter months -- 20" Carrera Classics with Mich Pilot Alpins. Love them. I would have preferred Blizzaks (I too have great experience with Blizzaks on couple of M3s), but they didn't offer in the 20" fitment a year or so ago.
3' snow drifts? Not likely something you will want to do more than once.... The ground clearance of the car is the real issue to be concerned with, not the tires abilities. At least here in PA/NJ most snow drifts on the roads aren't the soft-and-fluffy powdery kind. You may not get stuck, but hit any kind of heavy wet, or packed-ice in that snow drift and you'll be replacing the front bumper cover.

I felt completely comfortable driving with the Alpins even though the car was brand new.
Another thing to watch is availability. Tire Rack ran out of 20" Alpins before the end of winter this last year. I was fortunate in that my dealer had a set to put on for me in February (at Tire Rack prices!).

However, AFAIK, I don't think the Conti comes with the size for us? Did they say it's going to be Conti or still be Pirelli?

As of now Both Pirelli (with the Winter 240) and Michelin (with the Alpin PA4) have offerings available in the stock 20" sizing. Pirelli has a 19" downsize also. I sell about an equal amount of both. The Michelins will be a bit better in deeper snow, and the Pirelli perform a bit more like an all-season on cold dry days. I'm not familiar with the Continental in Porsche sizing. Best time to buy is September-October. Demand did exceed supply last winter and they only make these tires usually in one run a year. So, get your name on the list early for them.
