I had scrapes like that so many times its not even funny, my Aston Martin Vantage spoiler lip was pranged like that so many times that it was almost a joke. It's crazy to run to the body shop to fix that sort of thing, it happens too often and gets too pricey, plus the drop/off and pick/up of it and wait times.
Learn to fix these yourself, its surprisingly easy. No, you won't get a 100% pro repair but you will get 95% and that will be more than good enough until the next 6 weeks when you whack it again. Takes a couple of hours, but its not too hard. Order some touch up pain in rattle cans. You need primer, color coat and topcoat. Should be $ 60 for all and you will have enough for about (4) repairs like this. Then get an assortment of sandpapers starting at 150 grit and working up to 2000 grit, and some painter's tape. Sand it down, use the coarser grits to knock it down and then work to the finer grits. At around 400 wet grit tape off and shoot some primer on it, which is going to give you some filler as well. Keep sanding, and re-prime. When you get it really smooth, around the 1200 grit, then you are ready for a couple of color coats. then clear it. pull the tape, make sure its good and dry, then wet sand with the 2000 and only YOU will ever know its been repaired. Most the time it takes is drying between coats, don't rush it, just find something else to putter around with until its dry enough to re-sand. Pretty much its just a series of 3 to 5 minute jobs and 15 minutes dry time between. It's not rocket science and you will be surprised at how good the results will be. This is also the reason I never film the front of my cars, the film makes the quick spoiler touch-ups more difficult.
I also used this method on my wife's SUV as she is always getting the bumper covers nicked front and rear, I've got pretty good at it.
What you're saying makes logical sense, but of course as soon as it happened I wasn't thinking logically and ran to the shop. They already ordered the part and should be here the beginning of the week so I would feel pretty bad about backing out. He told me there won't be any down time, just going to get the part painted and pop it on when it's ready.
if you have a replacement pc already ordered, just have it painted and store it away until you sell the car . In your mind, the car stays " perfect " with regards to the front end. Just do the DIY refurb of the scraped pc yourself, and in the future, everytime you encounter a steep ramp, no sweat , because you'll just fix it again once you get home and the second time around it will be 10x easier .
Trust me, on areas down there, YOU will be the only person who will ever even stare at that spot...everyone else is standing to side or rear admiring the whole car .
Otherwise, you will be even more nervous with a new pc mounted, judging by your OCD - like comment about driving it straight to a body shop right after it happened.
You will truly enjoy the car vs dreading an otherwise nice new drive route that comes with unfamiliar parking structures, gas stations , speed bumps , hills and dips .
Spot on about the OCD. It's not horrible, but I like to keep my nice things nice, you know? My kids jack up everything else (which is normal, kids are kids), but not my 911

Now you will have the OEM one to repair yourself, then. Make sure you get the old part and they don't toss it, then fix it in your spare time. That way you will have a spare to go on when needed.
Hey there everyone. I purchased my first Porsche two weeks ago (C2S). I have been wanting one for quite some time, as I'm sure most of you can relate! Coming from an E90 M3, this car is incredible.
Yesterday I had to run some errands in the city and decided to take the Porsche. I got "trapped" going through a pretty steep curb that scraped up the front left Aerokit splitter. Just had speed film installed too, UGH.
I already got an estimate and its going to be about $500 to fix/replace. Am I acting too quickly? Is this just the norm for those that have aerokits? I understand the bottom is going to get a little scraped, but it bugs me that its on the front and scraped the paint off.
I keep a spray can of body color paint handy and just spray a little paint on the scuff as a touch up. Works great cost little and can be reapplied as needed.
Currently my wife is TERRIFIED to drive it, it's too much responsibility for her lol. She's happy in the Suburban
Same here. She literally has no desire to drive my car since she knows how upset I'd be if it got banged up. However, I got her a boxster to be fair and she prefers it to the 911 anyways.
I just scraped my Aerokit front lip for the 3rd time, first two were underneath so not visible unless you're laying on the ground. This time was on the way home just now... some ridiculously bad road conditions (construction in downtown Toronto), I heard it scrape and it is barely visible along the very bottom of the drivers side of the lip.
I'm planning to leave it as is for now, as long as the lip itself takes most of the beating and it isn't overtly noticeable I'm fine with getting it repainted or replaced after a year or two. Not worth losing any sleep over.

Ah, sounds exactly like what happened to me. Now that some time has passed and I've realized it really isn't that bad it's not bugging me as much. I'll probably still get it fixed and keep the original one to practice a repair on.
Everyone seems to think it's not bad or noticeable unless you're looking for it.
I did the same thing to my GT silver car and had the same reaction. And lost sleep. And my wife says she won't drive it for fear of a leaf falling on it. So I know where you are coming from.
I would wait to get to know on sight what dips and driveways will scratch. Maybe wait until I didn't scratch it again for 6 weeks. It would be maddening to get it fixed perfectly only to scratch it again. Get to know the routes, gas stations etc you frequent. I'm OCD about it, so then I would get it fixed perfectly. And having the perfect fix all ready to go would, for whatever reason, make me feel better.
I still have my backup in the garage, I haven't hit 6 weeks without a scrape yet. But it's getting close.

Well to be fair my scrape is not noticeable unless you get down low/up close... from the pics you've posted yours is quite noticeable. Not helping matters but if I was in your situation I'd have the lip painted or replaced.
I was having the same problem. My office driveway is steep and there was no way for me not scrap. Therefore, I just cut out that section. I know blasphemy but I just couldn't stand the scraping sound that alarmed everyone walking nearby.
Has anyone removed their painted lip? I know they don't ship with them in place and the dealer installs. Are they glued on, clipped on or sticky tapped?

Doesn't look bad at all man. I love the black contrasts you have on the car. I asked if I could just remove the bottom lip on mine but they said it wouldn't look right/have stuff hanging off.
