Looks like oil to me.

Here is what my oil looked like after 1400 miles, or one year on my coupe. My oil was very clean after 1400 miles. If you look at the paper towel you will notice a yellowish amber hue tint to the oil. I did my own oil change and ensured the O-ring was properly lubercated and seated.

At this point, he shouldn't even try to get an accurate measurement since the oil needs to be hot. He should not run the motor at all. But fair question.

+1 on not starting that engine. Make sure you also check the engine bay for oily rags left by the dealer during any oil change (Seattle Larson Porsche fire incident).

Look under the driver's side rear bumper. If you see oil there, it's just oil they spilled while carelessly pouring oil into the engine. I noticed that our engine fill tube is very slow taking the oil and if you just invert an oil jug, it will start to spill out.

+1.

That's not a lot of oil on the ground, maybe an ounce or two. If the oil level is up on the indicator, I'd sure not risk the hassle and potential damage of flat-bedding the car to the dealer.

The oil leaks can't have been more than a few ounces. I've driven it twice since the service, the first time without knowing there was a leak (for about 7 miles), which I discovered only when I pulled the car back into the garage. I wiped up the oil, and checked a couple of days later, no leak, so drove to Cars & Coffee, about a 15 mile round trip, and the oil temp rose to 225, which seemed a bit high for a cool morning. Parked the car, checked for a leak that evening, and that's when I saw the leak in the picture I posted earlier. So it's still leaking, but not enough to significantly reduce the oil level. The dealer is approx. 2 miles from here, so I'll drive it there this morning.

Good point on the cost of the service, which was $242. They should offer to refund that, but I doubt that will happen. I would assume a basic procedure for an oil change it to run the engine briefly after the oil/filter have been changed, shut down and check for leaks. Either it wasn't done, or something developed after I drove the car home. We'll see....

Just returned from the dealer. They put the car on the lift, and showed me where the leak was: the drain plug. The tech said he tightened it a quarter turn. I asked him why he assumed the crush washer is good, and he said it would take an hour to drain the oil and replace it, and he thought I was in a hurry! I said I didn't care how long it would take, but to drain the oil and replace the washer. Since the low oil indicator never came on, it's unlikely I lost even 1 quart.

I asked the tech if he had serviced the car, but it was someone else. I also asked if, after they take the car for a drive after the service (which they did, 4 miles) if they put it back on the lift to check for leaks, and he said they don't. Pretty surprised about that. In any case, it seems like crisis averted. Still, pretty disappointing that I can't count on a simple oil change being properly done at a Porsche dealership.

And thanks for all of the advice and help. Kind of eased my mind until I could get the car in for service.

That's a bummer about your experience.

Is it a large Porsche dealer you go to?

I would get to know a tech or two and always get them to work on your car.

You should be getting your money back or some free service -- not that you would ever want to use them again! Like you said, very disappointing. I would never go back to them again.

Fill out the survey, and blast them. Vote with your wallet, and go someplace else for future service.

And send them a "bill" for hazardous clean-up for your epoxy garage floor.

It's a dealership that's been around for quite a while, but includes BMW, Mercedes and Audi. Never had a problem until now. The other closest Porsche dealership is about 60 miles away, but is a "Premiere" dealership. Given the infrequency of service on the car, that's probably in my future. But a drag for sure, as the local dealership is where I've bought several cars over the past 5 years.

Haven't picked up the car yet; we'll see.
