Default Yellow Oily Leak After 1 Year Service

I have a 2014 50th Anniversary which went in for an annual service 2 weeks ago. This was just an oil and filter change. Next time I drove the car I noticed a yellow, oily liquid had leaked somewhere from the rear of the car, enough to creat a 2 foot long by about 2 inch trail of fluid. I cleaned it up, and it's leaked again, about a 5 inch diameter under the engine. I don't think it's oil, as it's too yellow. Maybe transmission fluid? I'm taking it back in tomorrow as the dealer's been closed all weekend for service.

Any thoughts on what this is, and could it have been impacted by the recent service if all they did was change the oil/filter? Very little driving since the service, btw.

What did it smell like? Maybe a leaky dynamic motor mount??

Dab your finger in the fluid (just a touch) and taste it, then you can tell what it is. That's what I do. It could very well be water from the AC condensation mixed with spring pollen to make it yellow.

The list of possible liquids is fairly short.
  • AC condensation - not yellow unless mixed with something as mentioned above
  • Coolant - will have an antifreeze smell
  • Engine mounts - not sure how this one looks or smells
  • Transmission fluid - not yellow and probably smells somewhat like greese
  • Oil - not really yellow but may be the most likely given what is done during a service

I'm interested to hear what it turns out to be once it's figured out

Suggestion:

Take a picture of the spill, And try to scoop up a little bit and put it in a zip-lock or something similar to show to the dealer. The last thing you want to hear is "we couldn't find anything..."

Haven't tasted it, but it's definitely oily, and I'd be surprised if it's fluid from the motor mounts, since there was a fair amount of the stuff. Tomorrow I should get it in. Most interested to find out what caused it. Was it error on the part of the technician or a coincidence that it happened after I drove the car home from the dealer.

My bet is that it is oil and the cause is a misplaced filter housing o-ring.

Any other bets ?

Sounds like brand new Mobil 1 0W-40.

Here's a picture of the leak (next to my wife's hand for perspective) a day after I cleaned up the original leak.

Yea. Looks like 0W40 Mobil 1. Car should be flat bedded back to shop.

Next time used a quarter. Your wife probably thinks you're nuts making her be a hand model.

Nice epoxy floor!

It does kind of look like fresh oil in the pic, and that would explain it given the service. Tomorrow will tell and I'll circle back with the full story when it's resolved.

Flat bed it in! It would be a shame to damage the engine from having an oil leak.

Pour a couple tablespoons of oil on your floor. It will look like your picture.

Curious how much you paid for the oil change service, especially if this is the result?
