Default Corner Weights

A while back there was a thread re: corner weights; finally got around to putting my 12.5 991S PDK,Full Leather, no S/R, carrera classic wheels, PSE, SPASM on:

with me in the car (too much glare to get a pic, but can read the numbers from driver's seat):
LF 633
RF 698
LR 1140
RR 872

this is the car with normal cold TP 33/36, close to full fuel

I'm light, but not that light. I think maybe that RR should be 972 unless it got lighter when I got in the car. I'm pleading fatigue, this was a quick throw it on the scales since they were set up, after 5+ hours of race car prep.

You're right, someone did the same recently- and when the initial numbers were pretty far off like yours it turned out to be a leveling problem. So you might want to double-check that. The solution in your case would be to lower the LR, which would take some weight off the RF and LR and add to the LF and RR. But the 991 doesn't use threaded coil overs (its not adjustable) so its a moot point.

Elephant Racing has a pretty good primer on corner balancing. Probably the main point is its much less a factor on street cars with relatively low spring rates than on performance cars with much higher spring rates. And no I am not saying the 991 isn't high performance. But even the optional stiffer PASM Sport setup is soft compared to a GT3. Which in turn is soft compared to a GT3 RS. RSR Cup car, ditto. All of which do of course have threaded coil overs for adjustability. http://www.elephantracing.com/techto...nerbalance.htm

Would be nice to know if you get better numbers after level checking. Also would be nice to know what you get with just the car.

I made a thread but thought I'd add it in here for reference. Think chuck911 was referencing mine.

Right. Yours wound up being very close once you got the scales level. Do you have the link?

These are 16 & 17 lbs diff on the fronts. Pretty amazing they have the car so dialed in they come right off the line that good.

One thing is sure: my scales are level. If you look closely in the picture you can see the 1/16" metal shim under the LR scale. The floor locations are marked for my race car and were leveled with a laser. The 991 wheelbase is slightly longer but track is pretty much the same and it's doubtful level is much different from the marked locations. Next time i set up the RC I'll put the 991 on the scales and see where it is.

Yeah, I can see that. Well you might want to think about looking into this a little more then. It may well be that yours is well within spec. Then again, maybe not. After all we have two examples around 16-17 lbs while yours is 99 lbs.

Even at that I do have to wonder how likely anyone would be to notice the difference. Under straight line braking your car would lock up the LF before the RF every time. But with ABS…. The other reason for corner balancing is to have the car handle the same turning left as right. Your car with 574/1068 on the left vs a more balanced 673/948 on the right should feel different. But with PSM and PTV how likely are you to notice? Probably not very, unless you're doing a lot of autocross or DE and really tuned into it.

If you do look into it it would sure be nice to know what turns up.
