$3140 for special paint...worth it?
I am curious if anyone has heard of the 'special' paint choices such as GT Silver or Carmine Red being of any better quality, more thickly applied, or finished differently than the regular paint choices. I had someone tell me once there is a 'lot more flake' in the GT silver, hence the cost. Anyone else want to BS a BSer?

Exact same finish, quality, thickness, etc... Just a way of you getting something different than the no charge offerings for that specific model. Another customizable example in addition to the Paint to Sample options. Although like all the option lists, you have to pay to play.

I can't speak to Carmine, but GT Silver is indeed special. It is lovingly hand-sprayed by leather-apron-clad Master Paint Artisans who spend their off-hours restoring the paintings of Mies van der Rohe and teaching art to disabled kids at local elementary schools.

For me, the extra money meant that I was less likely to see my color on another 991 when driving down the road. It also meant that a dealer was less likely to order it as inventory. It's more like an insurance policy than an actual improvement in the paint itself. As mentioned, Porsche does this for profit, and has the most impressive profit for car of almost any mass producer of automobiles.

Ya I forked over some change for the GT Silver. I initially wanted SBM but once I saw GT in real life, I instantly wanted it! It is a few shades better than rhodium silver or platinum silver, but is it worth the extra loot Porsche charges you for it? Probably not. But people like me who are willing to pay more for something slightly more unique are a dime a dozen in the Porsche community......

In his spare time he spins and dyes the deviated color thread that he lovingly stitches onto the steering wheel and other interior parts of the car
