I figured I'd start the obligatory picture thread of the new ride, so anybody searching for this combo in the future can find a few shots.
I picked it up 3 days ago, but the inlaws came in town right afterwards so I didn't get to drive any until last evening. I snapped a few shots in low light before driving. I'll take some glamour shots in better conditions and locations when the "new" wears off a little more.
The camera picks up the reflections in the rear window, but in real life you can see the red seat backs peaking through very nicely. This is why I will not monkey with the taillights or the lower reflectors -- they're a great visual continuation of the seatbacks from behind.
Not exactly Ansel Adams quality, but a taste of what the seats look like from the back:
Having been around when the 996 (and especially the widebody 996) came out, I never thought I'd see the day a 911 would make that car look delicate. But this one does. Can't tell in this picture but the 991 is an inch taller (and mine's SPASM). And visually, the flanks are much taller above the much larger wheels and tires. When you look at them side by side, even without the tape measure, you get a sense of a much thicker, chunkier car in the 991. Similar to the effect of comparing 996 to 993.
Congrats! Looks great. Lots of love for GT Silver with the GTS's. Nice to see!
The ducktail is what all the car people who've seen it have raved about. That has been universally loved so far. I do wish I could have gotten the black retro grill with the duck; it worked in 73, why not now?
Stunning. I prefer the grille you have to the black one, but that's just me. The red/black interior is great. If my car were a coupe it's totally what I would go for.
Watch that garage door! You don't want love marks on that gorgeous GT Silver!
LOL, it looks closer than it is! I saw that picture on my computer and went out to check cuz it looks so close. 10" from the nearest protrusion, 13" from the door. Whew!
I have a laser in the ceiling that lines up with the deviated stitching on the dash when I'm at the right spot.
