Noise at 2,000 RPMs C4S 7MT
#31
I have a 2014 991S Cab and its quiet.
As others have said, it may be a heat shield, there are plenty of things that can rattle around back there. On most manual transmission cars (not specifically your model) if the throwout bearing is going *****, it will rattle as well until the pedal is engaged. This is relatively easy to tell, push the clutch in and the noise goes away, let it out and it returns.
The key is to be able to replicate the rattle, especially on a lift. If you can get the rattle to repeat, then any halfway decent mechanic can quickly find the source with a automotive stethoscope. If its intermittent, than it can be difficult to track.

Hi ubitz,
My 2013 C4S 7mt does the exact same thing. Everything seems normal, but it does make the same exact sound while shifting from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd while at low rpms. Did you ever find out what it was from Porsche?

I changed the clutch/flywheel, and got everything checked. The noise is a bit less ... but it is still there!
I think I ran out of options at this point :-(
Ideas are more than welcome.

Based on that 3rd video it could be your technique. Try pushing the clutch as you feather off the gas rather than releasing the gas first. Most of my MT's have made the same sound when driven that way. Noticed it most when I would let someone else drive my car.

I never shifted at 2000 rpm. When cold, I shift around 4000 and when oil is hot go to 5000-6000, typically. I cruise around 3000. The only time I have driven at 2000 or less was when very low on fuel and trying to get to a gas station.

I agree with member Cluthplate above. Cant see the vids to hear the noise, but if its what I think you're experiencing, it is totally normal for just about any manual transmission with a drive shaft. Which is why its happening on 4S's. The drive shaft assembly for front wheels has a slight bit of play and is loaded as you're accelerating. If you quickly push the clutch in on load the shaft will slightly rock back and forth causing somewhat of a clunky rattle as the load is abruptly removed. It is certainly driving technique that causes this. Your timing is off slightly with throttle and clutch or your pushing clutch in way to fast for such a low rpm shift. I can easily make the noise happen on my 4S if I want to shift improperly...but who wants to do that?!
