Drive to Conditions

I would hate to come across an armadillo running at those speeds.

Fortunately, the chances of running across an armadillo in Australia would be pretty slim. You'd have to fly to Australia with an armadillo in your carry-on, take it out to the bush, coax it onto the road, drive away really fast, do a quick u-turn then...SPLAT!

Ok lets change that to wombat then.

I'd be too worried about animal collisions to really enjoy it, unfortunately. If you hit a kangaroo at 200 MPH, they'll have to call in people from CERN to figure out what kind of car you were driving.

Awesome video. Driving at that speed on the "wrong" side of the road would interesting!
As a side note, I remember a teacher of mine in high school telling me of the time he hit a big red roo up there. Exploded through his windscreen, and when he came to a stop he looked across to the passenger seat to see its hind leg impaled through the seat back.

I was watching the steering wheel. Forget wildlife, one of the trickier things at speed is the road itself. For such a remote stretch of public road that one looks impressively smooth.

Three Wheelin'
Scary! When I worked in Western Australia, we hit a roo nearly everyday going to or from work. Can't tell you how many times we had to replace the front end guard on our trucks!

And here I was thinking the wildlife shots were exotic local color establishing that we're in Australia. Little did I know they were all building tension for the terrifying climax: a man driving a Porsche fast.

Thought you were joking at first. Then I watched again and guess what? Learning opportunity!
At 1:33 on the video, 97 kph, the low tire warning is not on. Car accelerates to 153 kph, light still not on. At this point they cut away, and its hard to see, had to watch closely in full screen 1080p, but look close there it is, the light comes on at 270 kph. When they cut back to the speedo showing 277 its clearly on.
So, check it out: the tires were not under inflated, more likely perfectly inflated. But Porsche has those crazy high numbers for maximum load/speed liability. So as the car crosses the speed threshold the light comes on, even though the tires are perfectly inflated.
Nice catch!
