Default Short Term 911

Hi, I am new to the forum and I was wondering if you guys could help me? I have never owned a 911 before, and I have been looking into purchasing one. I test drove one and I found it fun; however, I am skeptical on how long the fun will last. I have been looking into buying one just for the summer to enjoy with my son, but how big of a depreciation hit will I take? The car is a 2013 c2s and has already depreciated $23000. Now I am reading about how the 991NA will retain its value and appreciate due to the 991.2 turbo. In this case would it be smarter to buy a new car and hold onto it?

For most guys on here, the fun lasts years and multiple cars. I can't think of anything more fun to drive than a 911!

If you found a great used 991, go for it.

The future value of a new NA 991.1? It will depreciate long before it appreciates. All speculation. 20 years from now one with low miles and great condition should fair well.

If you plan on actually driving it a lot, get the 2013 and save money.

How long will the fun last? Forever. Only car that gets better the more you drive it.

Is three months depreciation worth it for my son? Don't ask me, he's your son.

People think the 991 NA will retain value better than usual? People always think their car will be the one to buck the trend.

Smarter to buy and hold? Yes.

I can't believe I've owned my car for a year...... the fun just keeps on going even when I'm not driving it.

Buy pre-owned and worry about values later while your blasting your way along some twisty country road.

I still have 73,000 miles worth of warranty and I'm going to love every mile.

By the way, your son will never forgive you for selling it after having a taste of the best sports car made.

Buy it and keep it.

There is zero chance a new 911 (or any new car, for that matter) won't depreciate once you drive it off the lot. You'll still lose a pile of money on a used one too, most likely.

Just for the summer? can you not rent one when you need it? much cheaper.

When you've decided to get one as a keeper, by all means, buy it.

Just understand you're asking on a 911 forum.

Everyone here is punch drunk on Porsche Kool-Aid.

That said, all of us are drunk cuz that Porsche Kool-Aid goes down mighty fine.

Buying a used one would be the smarter play than a new one. I bet you won't give it up though (or your son won't let you!).

Swap a lease or similar sites may be an option for you. The better option is to just buy one (new or used). You won't regret it. You say you want it for this summer. What about next summer, the following summer, the summer after that, fall, spring, etc?

I'd recommend buying the 2013, especially if it is CPO and has the options/color combo that makes you happy and you're going to keep it for years. You'll save a lot of money and still have a warrantee through (most likely) 2019. That's what I did a year ago and I'm still having fun.

make sure your son has some worth. I have met too many at a university who have none. Make sure he can buy his own. Do not buy it for him. If he can buy it for himself, he is worthwhile. If not, he is useless. Sorry for my frankness and insight.

I leased my first P car 2 years ago, C2S Cab and oh my have those 2 years gone by fast. It has been by far the best car I have ever driven and I have been fortunate to drive some very nice cars in my life.
It is my daily driver and my son gets as much fun being in the back seat as I do in the front.
Sadly, the lease is up and the kids are too big to fit back there anymore so its going to be a Macan S for now until I get back into another 911 (hopefully in a few years).
