Even though I kind of distracted from the original point, what a great job they have done keeping weight down. Even compared to their own earlier models, which were lighter (and smaller) but were also nowhere near as structurally sound, with nowhere near today's levels of safety equipment- which includes everything from air bags to PSM. Then as you said, compared to other cars, it really is impressive.
It should be very close, maybe a bit more, as I recall AP saying they saved some weight but then spent the savings (and then some) on PDK and RAS. Its nice to be light but there are tradeoffs. Still, would sure be nice if you could order your car with a harness instead of airbags, delete the rear seating, etc. At least with the 991 you don't have to put up with a sunroof.
3,137lbs. 2015 GTS No Driver. Half Tank of Gas. 7 Speed Manual. No options besides Spasm and back up camera.
I'm very happy with that. My e92 m3 was around 3550. Also weighed a friends F80 M3 DCT today and it weighed 3,661lbs. Guess Bmw was full of it when they said the new one is lighter?
its amazing the difference that weight makes on the track; driving GT3s vs M3s on the Ring, the E92 felt like a Panzer compared to pretty much any GT3 that passed me - only the stripper M3s were then competitive against the 911s!
There was this one DE instructor, had a 79 SC, decided the only way he could afford to make it faster was lighten it up. He didn't rip out his roof liner but over a period of years removed or replaced a lot of stuff, aluminum brake calipers, bumpers, even replaced his Porsche hood crest with a sticker. Claimed 600, but even a more realistic 400 is a lot on a 3000 lb car. Anyways, it flew! You'd never believe it was a stock motor, near stock suspension, worse than stock brakes! Just can't see anyone doing that with today's cars though….
Wow! That is almost exactly the same weight as my loaded Cayman S w/ PDK. I would have guessed the GTS would be heavier--it sure looks bigger!

When you consider that the 911R was 1760 lbs., it is obvious how bloated modern cars have become. A 991 GT3 Cup still weighs 2590 lbs. after stripping all possible weight and adding a cage. A street GT3 is listed at 3153 lbs. curb weight, so that pretty much defines the limits of how much you can lighten today's 911 (maybe 4-500 lbs.), given that the Cup car weight is probably "dry" and curb weight is defined as "with all fluids" I believe.

I've seen some SC's at 2200 lb. that have no problem keeping up with some turbos. Weight to power rules.
The thing about the Cup, the R and those SC's, they are basically stripped to metal single seaters. Okay not the R but that's a pretty special car, earlier smaller body, etc. Point is the really low numbers are body, suspension, engine, seat. The faster cars like the GT3, GT3RS etc don't (can't) get lighter because of all the regulations they have to satisfy to drive on the street. I bet there's at least 100 lbs in air bags alone, which if you just use your belts is pretty much wasted. Its a big reason cars like Singers are so hot, they can get by without all that. Its seriously impressive Porsche has been able to keep weight down so well given their regulatory environment. Imagine if they didn't have to though….
Interesting. My 991 C2S with a ton of options was just ~30lbs more. I wonder if the wider body adds a bit of weight. Also, my weight distribution was much more even, wonder if the car was not level?

Yep, I think I have one of the lightest street legal 911's at 1,890 pounds. It's a revelation to drive and with only 240hp it holds its own against most 997 GT3's at the track.
