Feeling Fortunate

Took the C2S out on a nice long drive through the mountains yesterday with the wife. Stopped for Easter service at a small chapel. Our daughters met us there. Brunch after.
Driving home I was struck by how fortunate I felt to be in a position in my life to enjoy such a fine machine. Nobody 'needs' a Porsche. These cars are a 'want'. And amazing cars they are on so many levels.
My car is a weekend hobby/toy, and at times I feel a bit guilty about the level of indulgence. I'll probably always feel that way to some extent - a byproduct of some the hardships it took to get to this point in my life where financial security makes it feasible. But lately those feelings have been waning. I've got my health, wonderful adult children, a loving wife, and the contentment of driving what I consider to be about the perfect sports car currently available.
Fortunate indeed. We all truly are.

Thank you for your wonderful thoughts. I couldn't agree with you more. While my GTS is currently on the Atlantic so I can't yet revel in it's wonderful greatness, I have been driving a succession of better and better Porsches since 2004, and I too feel blessed to get to enjoy them. I also know that if it ended tomorrow and I never got to drive another one, that would be fine too. I don't say that cavalierly, but it is true nonetheless.
For me, part of the joy has been working my way up, taking small steps every few years, buying way, way below my means, and always paying cash. Not meaning to start a debate about that at all. Everybody does it differently and does it the way that suits them best. But for me, the joy of knowing that if I cracked one up and insurance didn't pay for it, it would be an annoyance but nothing more, has always been one of the things that allowed me to fully enjoy my sports cars.
Here's to enjoying these cars and more importantly our lives beyond these cars.

Went for a drive yesterday after family dinner for fresh air and a coffee. No radio on. Just the sound of the flat six NA engine and PSE. Nailing it getting into the freeway and hearing it scream and shift was priceless. Makes you appreciate what a great machine it is, and being able to drive one .... Having the dream and being able to fulfill it after working for it is very gratifying.

You are living the good life, my friend. And, you earned it. Nothing to feel guilty about. Your story, I think, crystallizes how many of us feel when behind the wheel of our Porsches. I know it does for me.....T

Blessed is the word I feel every time I drive it. And health and relationships are what really matter.
