I have one of the first 2016 cars, built in June 2015 and only get texts (no email). Also, I only get the texts that arrived once the car is turned on and paired up with my iPhone 5S running iOS 8.4, nothing prior to starting the car shows up. I think that the 991.2 with Apple CarPlay will be a deal changer. Hopefully, we'll be honored with a PCM software upgrade which will allow us to have it as well, but I'm not holding my breath.
Oddly, on this morning's commute I started getting a notification on the PCM screen every time I received an email and was able to read the text of the emails as well (though under the "text" tab as the "email" tab remained empty). Weird that it started working all of a sudden because I had updated to iOS 8.4 a few weeks ago.
Sorry, I updated to 8.4 a many weeks ago and, mercifully, no texts or emails are coming to my 991 so I still drive safely. There is no reason to capture an email or text message while driving. We would have many people alive today if this was a nonexistent feature on all cars. There would be many teens still alive today if their iPhone knew they were in a car while texting and shut them down. Our current nonfunctional Porsche-feature is useful.
