Default Expensive Lesson for Tall people

So a lesson learnt for me!

I made the decision last year to trade in my 2011 low mileage Carrera S for a Jag F type R.

Much deliberation was had at the time, but I was excited by the Jags looks and reviews and i ultimately folded, being British, and picked a nice red and black example of the F type R.

Loved the car, the exhaust, the power, looks and the feel overall, but over time became a little disappointed with my purchase ... Why?

1) Build quality / material selection - Good but not as good as a 911
2) Tail happy - Fixed this year with AWD but a beast to handle in the wet in RWD variant
3) On the limit for comfort - Being Tall 6'5" i fitted, but this was borderline and ultimately after 8 months I felt i was uncomfortable. Primarily because the rear bulkhead limited seat travel and I was unable to lean the seat back, leading to a feeling of sitting on the car rather than in the car.

With all that said, I hope I can get back "into the fold" with my trade from a 2015 Jag R (3 k miles) to a 2014 911 C2S (5.5k miles)

Just picked this up from West Houston Porsche - in Rhodium Silver, with Sport Chrono, PSE, PDK and Bose audio (wished it was a Burmester - only missing upgrade i wanted)

An expensive lesson overall but not "too bad" as a swap in the end, as they gave me a decent trade in, and the depreciation of the two cars were aligning. Thank you to the guys and girls at the dealership for their support in the deal.

Also managed to convince myself that it was almost the same as if I had purchased the 911 from the beginning (based on sticker), with the added benefit of driving a future British classic, and now i have to pull my seat forward

If you are tall be careful and try to sit in your future purchase for as long as you can before you buy.

My company has a 10% off deal with jag on the f type. Was totally tempting. That car is such a great bit of theater.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but you did drive it before you bought, right? Did you think the roof was going to rise like the one above Parliament?

I was a little suspicious when I saw the initial ads in R&T.........

I can see how a 6'5" person might feel a little cramped

First time I test drove a 911 was in 1995 and my head touched the ceiling with the seat all the way at the bottom. Salesman told me the non-electric seats were a "little" lower, but no way I was going to buy a car where going over a bump might break my neck. At the time I had a 92 Miata S, and the Miata, both with the soft and hard top, had more headroom. I figured the Porsche would always be too small for me. Color me pleased that the 991 is basically enormous by comparison - there's over 3" of headroom in it for me.

I am 6'8". The 991 gt3 without a sunroof allows me to track with a helmet in total comfort. Nothing else around even comes close. Many people believe to mechanics of the up and out sunroof on the 991 means no headroom is lost.

Not true. I sat in a sunroof and non sunroof 991 and the difference is shocking.

Love the 991!!! Welcome home!

This makes perfect sense to me. Even thought the glass or metal sunroof opens above the roof, it still is thicker than the sheet metal and insulation it replaced, so headroom has to be sacrificed to add a sunroof of either type.

My sports car interest was piqued by the new Cayman, but after a drive in both the 911 was the leading choice. The only other car considered was an F-type coupe, and I was able to drive the first one in town. I am only 6' 2" and found the seat cushion very uncomfortable and the rear bulkhead limited my legroom. The F-type is a very nice Jaguar but not a 911 competitor...

Don't feel bad I just traded a 2012 Cayman S and a 2014 Panamera..oh I guess I lost about 30k..My wife made 4 payments on the Panamera and said she just wanted her Range Rover so I traded both cars on a 991S..Its a very lightly optioned car..It 110k and I got it for 102k..so I guess my trades hurt a little less..THis is the last time we ever do this again!!!!

6'9" tall and love the room in my non-sunroof 991! Previous car was an '88 non-sunroof coupe; leg- and head-room definitely better in the 991

I just traded a 2012 Jag supersport xjl on my 09 997tt . I am happier with the Porsche by far . I will say that sc 5.0 jag motor was extremely strong . its too bad that Jag has a reliability stigma , these new cars seem solid .
