Default 991 C2 vs 997 GTS

on paper, these 2 cars seem to be close in performance, and similar cost to buy (2011 vs 2013)

Is a standard C2 alright as a weekend car? No tracking, etc. I dont know to go with the newer and smaller engine in C2, or older and more hp..

They are both fine as weekend cars. I would imagine that at equal prices, the 997 GTS will have more options and pizazz, and performance that a "standard" C2. On the other hand it will likely also have more miles on it.

There are big differences between the 997 and 991 that matter to people. I drove both in 2012 when they were roughly equal in price and the choice was easy. You need to do the same and buy get the one that makes you smile more.

PS If its public opinion you are after, you need to ask the folks at the 997 forum too.

997 GTS over 991 C2 any day for me. Wide-body > standard.

GTS is 50hp more and a much more thrilling car in this comparison.

If you're spending that much, just get a 991C2S.

The best option.

Are you looking to buy a PDK or a manual?

It would likely be pdk.
I just dont know of any clear advantage of one over the other
Above it says the 997 would be more thrilling, but both are pretty fast for average stuff. i wouldnt track the car.
I assume the newer pdk is better however.
Tough call? or is it obvious? Curious.

991 S would be too high in price - not comparable

Not sure if you're asking the OP or me. For me, it depends on the particular car I always intended to buy a manual but after driving a few PDKs I must say that I'm impressed. But all things being equal I think I'd look for a manual 997 GTS or a PDK 991S.

Unfortunately, there is no one right/wrong answer.

Many great men have contemplated this decision before in many of posts.

Best thing to do, drive BOTH and go with your heart.

Tough choice. The newer pdk is better.

If it was a 991 C2S I'd say go for that. But a 991 C2 vs the 997 GTS, I'd say GTS.

991 C2.

Easy.

Better improved new chassis.

Better, upgraded interior.

Better, faster tech.

Better car.

Upgraded and newer tech, yes, no doubt. Better car? Nope. Especially not the base over the 997 GTS. In fact, many prefer the 997 all together, but there are many threads about that already, and this will always be the debate when a new generation arrives. In the end the OP needs to drive both, feel them both, and make the decision with his heart, if you apply any sort of reason we'd all be driving a Ford Focus. The 991 is sublime, I really like it, the 997 has more character, and I love it.

Just my 2 cents... you really need to drive them both, reading reviews and polling here doesn't matter much.

I would take a 997 GTS over the 991 C2, assuming you could find a nice, low mileage one. If you were comparing it to a 991 C2S, I would say the 991 C2S. I just traded a 2012 997 GTS in on a 991 GTS and like just about everything better on the 991 GTS. But, I don't see anyway I would have traded my 997 GTS on a 991 C2.
