Default Fresh speeding ticket!

So...I got a fresh $200 speeding ticket today from an unmarked police car - first time for me in Japan. I had driven many years in the States before without a single ticket (I drove a corvette) and many years in other country without a single ticket as well.

/vent on

The cop told me I was doing 78 mph on a highway (shown on his laser system, but obviously I didn't mind because I was occasionally doing faster than 78 mph as I was overtaking a car). On few occasion during overtaking, I did about 86 mph.

Fyi, ALL Japanese highway has a speed limit of 63 mph.

The cop asked me to do 63 mph on normal highway and to never exceeds 69 mph during overtaking.

I don't mind the ticket because I did broke the law. $200 is also really nothing to me, but it's still money plus a record in my driver license. But, I admit I felt bitter because I was "lasered" from an unmarked police car and especially there were other cars that went much faster than me. Yes, my 991 stood out very well from all those rice ****s. I don't have any laser detector etc installed in my 991 and I was stupid not to get one.

Regardless, I'm wondering if there is any point owning a 991 if I can only drive 69 mph on highway. On pedestrian streets, the speed limit is 31 mph.

I think I did my best to "slow down" the 991 because it screamed every time I pushed the pedal - you know what I meant.

So what would you do if you are in my position? I'd be grateful if you guys can give me some opinions. Should I get a laser detector installed so I can continue to drive (and most likely break the law), or should I just part with my 991 and maybe just get a pinto, or maybe just do something else like painting?

As a Porsche lover, I think I live in a wrong country.

It's a loaded question.

Can you really not analyze the situation?

Some responses that will be hurled here:

1. Take it to the track!

2. Speed limits are pretty much around the same everywhere. What are you complaining about?

3. Move to Germany and hit up the Autobahn.

4. Get a good radar/laser detector/jammer.

5. Do you really want to be going 70mph in a 30mph zone?

6. Get a convertible and at least look cool with a pair of shades on.

Look at all the radar/laser posts lately. Have you not read up on them?

Thanks for the post!

>Can you really not analyze the situation?

I wish I could.

>1. Take it to the track!

Been there done that.

>2. Speed limits are pretty much around the same everywhere. What are you complaining about?

I think it's 70-75 mph in US, except in Hawaii.

This is a 991, is it really possible to drive less than 69 mph on HIGHWAY all the time? The car has so much torque. If you can, how do you do it?

>3. Move to Germany and hit up the Autobahn.

Yes I prob could, but can't speak German

>4. Get a good radar/laser detector/jammer.

Any suggestion for the best one? And if it really works?

>5. Do you really want to be going 70mph in a 30mph zone?

I've never said I want to do 70 mph in 30 mph zone. There're pedestrian in 30 mph zone whereas highway has just cars. It's the highway I have problem with.

>6. Get a convertible and at least look cool with a pair of shades on.

That's a thought.

Texas 85 mph speed limits in some places.
They speak English in Germany. Get a job here and a work visa and you will love it!

I think I've no choice but to install one. I had valentine-1 when I was in US, maybe there's one that looks nicer and fully built in...

Look at Escort or K40

Lot's of opinions/debates/fights over

"the best"

Do your own research. Lots of posts here and 6Speed. Having some defense on your side and being smart how you drive can really help avoid trouble.

Bummer on the ticket!

Check out this recent thread on countermeasures. Be careful though as this is all US based discussion - you will need to find info specific to your country and on the local versions of these websites.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/8526...detectors.html

From my research, in the US, for laser jamming the AL Priority is currently the best and for radar detection that can be custom installed - the Escort 9500ci (radar and laser combo - you may not want their laser system) and Bel Stir plus (radar only).

+1 one of the most memorable days of my life was taking my new 7.1 GT3 up to an indicated 186mph on the autobahn chasing a Turbo cabriolet!

Pretty simple. If you like driving your car, keep it. If you don't, sell it. There are speed limits around the world which don't deter people from owning a Porsche.

I agree and what a wise statement that is.

At the moment my brain is processing the images of smirking cops handing out their tickets for their pleasure, speed traps, unmarked police car and possibly heart sinking radar beeps if I ever get it installed. Possibly now that they had seen my 991, the unmarked cops will tail me every time they see me on highway. I'm the only 991 in my town. It takes out the whole enjoyment of driving my car, but I'm not sure by how much. Maybe I'm too paranoid, but only time will tell...

I have considered selling it too and have taken few quotes from places including my original car dealer.
