Laser help needed! + Escort windshield vs custom install (Max2 vs 9500ci)
Here's the question:
Other than the cleaner, integrated installation - is there an advantage of the Escort 9500ci over an Escort Passport Max2 with separate LaserShifterPro?
Here's the background:
Live in CA and am currently a 6 year user of a V1. Love the performance, love the arrows but now too noisy with falses - and no laser protection which is now in full use in my area. So I'm going to try the Escort and see if I like it.
I just used the CES promo https://rennlist.com/forums/991/8526...detectors.html and bought a Passport Max2 at 40% off the retail of $599.
This doesn't solve my laser issue, however I'm not sure if you're allowed to use the shifters in CA - so this maybe hypothetical. I saw that Escort also sells their new Laser Shifterpro for $599. I was thinking if I should add the laser shifter to my order.
This seems a decent amount cheaper than the 9500ci at $1,999 (assuming the shifters are the same) and am wondering if just installing the shifter would be easier than the whole 9500ci? Would the performance of my proposed set up be as good as the 9500ci?
Two contributing factors:
1) I like to use my RD in my wife's SUV for trips with the family (portability is important) and don't overly feel like I need laser prtection as mostly on the open highway and have the family I the car. Maybe I just continue to use the V1 in that car.
2) Tend not to keep my cars long term - so full install of the 9500ci doesn't overly excite me.
Final thought - and I do NOT want to start this into an Escort vs V1 thread, but am I giving up any performance going with the Max2 from the V1 that I should be aware of when driving?

I have one 9500 hard wired into two cars. I simply move the unit itself from car to car. Best of both worlds for me.
I think that most would agree that there is better laser protection that can be obtained from non-integrated units. I separately install Laser Interceptor shifters in my car.

I understand the shifters are the same separately or with the entire package.
I mainly like the integrated unit so to keep someone from breaking a window if left visible. I also think (no solid proof) that the detector unit that is installed is larger than the entire window unit so should be better. Maybe no truth to it but seems to make sense.

I think the "break-in" argument is old. I just don't think that happens anymore. However, the windshield mounted detector is absolutely larger than the interior display for the concealed, integrated models.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I like to think I'm relatively up to speed on the radar side of things but haven't investigated the laser side as much. I'm interested to hear more about the performance of different laser units.

Year after year, Blinder is the best and only slightly better than the Escort Laser Shifter Pro. I'm going to finally pull the trigger on a laser jammer this year and will be going with one of these.

I think the AL Priority is the current leader as far as laser jammers are concerned as it jams just about all the current guns out there. I think Laser Interceptor is good, but has not kept up with the newer guns. Have not heard good things about Blinder and that their technology is old.

I did a little research - and it seems the Laser ShifterPro (LSP) doesn't jam the dragon eye gun currently. And that many don't.
Does anyone know where to find a list of laser guns used in your area? I wish I could update the thread header to + laser help needed!
Some of the comparison tests would agree with Mr. nuts that the Al Priority is one of the best, and that the Laser Interceptor's components are pretty much the same as the LSP.
Three tests that I saw that looked pretty relevant when searching:

I think Laser Interceptor sells their jammer heads to LSP and LI does not jam Dragon Eye either. ALP does, which is the reason it is the current leader. Dalema - you are in CA, isn't it illegal to have jammers in CA?

Edit: wasn't on the US site - makes more sense now. The feature of having it controlled by bluetooth and theoretically not having anything inside the car is attractive though.

I have the Laser Interceptors, but had them installed about 1 year before the ALP came out. If I had to do it all over again, I would go with the ALP.

I had the ALP system installed on my 991. I couldn't be happier. Have been using it for about 9 months and it's saved me 3 times.
The integration with the 9500 makes me think about purchasing one, but so far, my V1 has worked. ALP is supposedly working on a link with the V1.
Only problem has been with the app. When they upgraded the IOS, it required going into settings and changing the privacy settings. This has since been resolved. Customer service has been great.
