I just think they get silly expensive, once options are chosen and in the end they have no comfort, for rear seat passengers, as the legroom is super tight.
Plus they weigh 4200lb.
They are a nice ride, for those who want something optioned out to a high level, compared to a Q5.
Some sedans I would consider first;
Dodge Charger Hellcat
Tesla S
Audi A7/S7
Mercedes E550 Wagon
Porsche Panamera S
I just feel that if you are going to roll w/ over 2 Tons, you should have legroom for your rear seat passengers.
I did consider a Macan, until I tried sitting in the back seat.

Maybe that's why they try and market it as a mini SUV that drives like a "sports car".

Now let's compare with your suggestions:
- Dodge Charger Hellcat - seriously?
- Tesla S - 50% more expensive, a lot less practical due to the range limitation, the interior was a letdown, not sold on the electric yet.
- Audi A7/S7 - nice sporty car but not even remotely as engaging and fun to drive as the Macan, the steering is quite numb and still understeers as a typical Audi. A lot bigger and doesn't handle as good as the Macan. Also, more expensive, especially in the S7 trim.
- Mercedes E350 Wagon - drives like a boat, I'll get one when I turn 75
. I did drive an E63, had a blast, ~60% more expensive thou and doesn't handle as nice as the Macan (a lot heavier, slush-box, etc.), before we even talk about the horrible depreciation.-Porsche Panamera S - now you are on to something but at ~75% more expensive I had to settle for the Macan.
Thanks for playing

E63 is just too expensive, as sebis said.
I do kind of wish Porsche made a compact high performance sedan, along the lines of the upcoming RS3.
Audi wont ever do this version, but Porsche could..

Perhaps change it to RWD and put an uprated Macan Turbo engine in it
