There is the unanswered question regarding the relative efficiency of the ducktail vs the "popup" spoilers in terms of downforce/lift reduction...

I have not seen any figures for this, but I have to imagine that the ducktail is as least efficient than the std spoiler raised, however I suspect that the ducktail may offer additional benefits in this regard

Default but on a Cab???

I'm still struggling with the decision to add the ducktail to my cabriolet or not!

Do it! I saw a duck tail on a cab at the Porsche World Roadshow at Thunderhill in November and loved it!

In the latest Excellence Magazine (received 12/23/14) a reader wrote to the tech section & asked to compare merits/drawbacks of the pop-up, duck & Aerokit on the 991.

The pop-up & duck were the most aerodynamically efficient in their opinion, with the caveat that the pop-up weighed more because of the mechanicals required to raise. Aerokit they weren't as smitten with. Felt there was an drag factor and would hamper performance some. In closing they felt they all looked good!

Ducktail all the way! Don't see it all too often on 991s, but I personally love the look and think it would really set off the appearance of a GTS coupe even more. Here's a quick shot I grabbed of the ducktail on a 1-of-50 (in the U.S.) C2S Sport Design Edition coupe at the local dealer...So sharp!

I'd love to get the duck on my GTS, but I don't want to drop the black grill :/

Eliminating the "black B-B-Q grill" is the main reason to GET the duck tail on a GTS, IMO. I absolutely hate the look of the black grill.

Larry,

It should be easy to do that. On a GTS, I am not sure it the wiring would be there to illuminate it as on a 4 GTS.

My only other concern for getting the light strip to replace the black strip would be.... will others think you are a poseur by trying to make your GTS look like a 4 GTS. However, I am sure no one here would mention it.

When you add this... Replacing the original... Do you have to buy a new brake light or does the one in the rear get retrofitted into the tail?

Also... Did you order the tail from Porsche direct (curious as it's shown unpainted)...

Yes you could reuse the brake light. Yes, the ducktail and the bumper are original factory parts direct from Porsche.

All Porsche OEM factory exterior replacement parts come unpainted and in primer only.

Need a new bumper, door, hood, ducktail, etc.? You have to get them painted at your local body shop. Hopefully a very good one that can match the rest of your car very well.

Porsche sources all its OEM parts from various third-party manufacturers.
