The tinted film will tone them down quite a bit. Painting them would be ideal (at least for me). Whatever suits you.

I got clear tail lights, but had them professionally painted with a tinted clear coat. Wasn't a fan of the total clear back there. Not bad, but like the darker a bit better.

Thanks for the pics and your car looks superb. My 80 928 is up at the painters now for front bumper cover repair & paint (hit a small deer last week) and will ask him about painting them. Looking at yours, seems to be the way to go. OP, sorry for taking over your thread a little, but all does seem pertinent T
