Engine Break-in (new info)
Ok yes I know its been discussed to death but came across this very interesting quote over in the 918 section. For the record Dr Walliser is head of Porsche GT Motorsport Program and GT Production Sports Cars.

".... Also an interesting note from Dr Walliser. The engine is broken in from the factory. I asked because of the hybrid nature of the car, the engine may not get the exercise like normal cars for the initial break in. The 918 will need around 500km break in for the other parts, like gearbox and stuff, but the engine is ready to go right from the start...."

This quote by the good doc indicates that their cars need a break-in period and even in the exceptional case of the hybrid 918 that is run-in at the factory an additional 500 is needed for other mechanical parts. This confirms that non-hybrid engines require an on-road break-in.

According to Dr Walliser, "The engine is broken in right from the factory."
According to Porsche, their engines require 2,000 miles break-in.
Q: Does anyone believe Porsche puts 2,000 miles on those engines?
Read the sig.

Read the print Chuck, he was talking about the hybrid engine and the reason it was run-in at the factory unlike the other cars. Please don't allow you pre-conceived idea blur your reading.
