Default Came home with a loaner

Came home with a loaner boxster. Wife basically grabbed keys from me and said she'd be driving the car, thanks very much.

Lightning struck and, as of yesterday, a new boxster s is in the garage.

My wife now "gets it" and will stop giving me endless crap about my 911. She waxes poetic about the balance, handling and general pleasure of driving the boxster. It is as if the clouds parted, light shone down upon her and she realized the inherent awesomeness of the Porsche cars.

It was funny watching her agonize over options and availability of models that met her wants and in the end compromised (19s instead of 20s and regular wheel instead of sports steering wheel.)

Down side: how do I explain the second Porsche to my aging frugal parents who already think I am nuts for the 911?

In summary: If your wife gives you a hard time about your car fetish, have her test drive the boxster.

Great story!!! And I believe anyone who doesn't "get it" about Porsche just hasn't driven the right one yet.
Here's more proof!

Same thing here. Wife was a die-hard Range Rover owner until the local dealer pissed her off for the 3rd time over service. Went to Porsche - she drove a Cayenne GTS - that was it. Now on her second car - while the GTS was in for service, the dealer gave her a CayenneS Hybrid to drive. She immediately traded her 2010 in for the new (at the time) 2012 with the upgraded body design.

You can not pry this car out of her hands. She loves it. Now she gets it and we have been to Rennsport and Pebble Beach Concours the last 2 years. She wants to go again - but only the Quail event along with all of the other porsche related events.

I keep telling people - drive one - THEN tell me what you think.

Yep, made mistake of having her test drive a new Boxster prior to my 911 Turbo S Cab purchase and she's hooked. Problem is also have a new Acura TL bought for her a few months ago and a new Tundra a month before that.

I have had Boxsters twice as loaners, they are awesome. If I could rationalize a convertible "play car" one would be in my garage.

The OP is lucky, my wife loves the 991 and always takes it if it's in the garage! She originally wanted a Panamera - I guess I should have bought it for her.

For some reason she is scared of the 911. She seems to believe that the 911 will spin out violently at the lightest nudge of the throttle because of the rear engine. That and she's terrified of possibly denting it somehow.
That being said she feels very comfortable in the Boxster.

Really highlights the stupidity of Porsche dealers that send their service customers home in some random clunker from Enterprise.

I wholeheartedly agree. I even expressed to the dealership 2 weeks ahead of time I was planning to upgrade - I drove home in a Prius!

Noah is correct. I always get a loaner Jetta. I told the dealer they are dumb about that. Give me a cayenne/macan and maybe my wife will decide that her RX 350 F sport isn't that good. /shrug.
