I got my first taste of a Porsche in a silver '67 911S that my Dad bought in 1969. It was the only car my folks owned while we were stationed in Madrid so I was in it often. When my grandparents visited that summer we squeezed them in along with our family of four to tour Spain- who knew the 911 seated 6?
And although they brought it back to the states, I never got to drive it- he sold it when I was 16 before I had my driver's license. Doh!
Still, riding around it in as a young kid left a lasting impression on me, and I always thought in the back of my mind that I'd get one someday.
So 35+ years later, I realized if I'm ever going to make it happen I probably oughta do it while I'm still working. I'm in that sweetspot- kids are all launched, not yet retired.
I debated between a new Cayman vs a used 911. I spent 6 or 8 weeks researching, contemplating, and basically driving my wife nuts talking about it. In the end I decided that this lovely 2013 Aqua Blue Metallic 911 C2 Cab from Omaha deserved to spend the rest of its life in a better climate.
Low miles and lots of the options I wanted were key factors in my decision.
Aqua Blue Metallic w/ blue cabriolet roof
PDK
Power seats, 14 way
Sport Exhaust
Multifunction, heated steering wheel
Heated seats (not gonna see a lot of use here)
Ventilated seats (however I will wear this one out!)
Bose
SiriusXM & HD radio
6 disc cd/dvd (honestly can't see this getting any use either)
ParkAssist (f/r)
PDLS
Porsche Entry & Drive
Int Light Pkg
auto dimming mirrors
Power steering plus
20" sportdesign wheels w/ color crest caps
a few fluff things-
illuminated logo in the door sills
porsche crest on the headrests
model designation "911" (for some reason I really like this vs "Carrera")
I had the dealer install a clear bra on her before she boarded the transport to the desert.
You know, I have been thinking about that... My dad passed away about 5 years ago and I think my sister & brother in law may have ended up with some of the documents and maybe some pix. My mom may have some as well.. I'll have to check... I know my b-i-l (also a 911 owner) put up a post some years back on early911sregistry to see if anyone knew of its whereabouts, but I don't think it has surfaced. That would be pretty cool to locate it if it's still around.
