Default Blue Ridge Parkway Saturday Run

Group of 24 Atlanta area Porsche lovers on Saturday drove 300 miles round-trip from Atlanta, GA > Cornelia, GA > Toccoa, GA > Westminster, SC > Seneca, SC > Six Mile, SC > Rosman, NC > Blue Ridge Parkway (Mile Post: 431.4: Richland Balsam Overlook. Highest point on Blue Ridge Parkway, Alt. 6,047ft) > Sylva, NC > Cashiers, NC for lunch at The High Hampton Inn. Weather (60-80) and roads were outstanding. We drove some of the very best winding twisting roads in GA, SC & NC.

While many in group are PCA members, this group is not associated with the PCA. We have about 250 Porsches in our data base, getting 20-40 cars per drive. We do these drives every 6-8 weeks on a Saturday on NC, TN, SC & GA mountain roads. There are no fees, just folks loving driving their Porsches.

Would my Cayenne have been welcome?

Wish I'd known about it. Looks like fun. I ride those roads on my motorcycle often.

Cayennes are welcome, send me a PM with your direct email address and I will put you on our emailing list for future drives.

So its an Outlaw Tour! So much the better! Region Tours are great, you know they'll be well organized, but they can sometimes take it to the point it becomes, shall we say, stifling. Some of the most fun driving times I've had were on outlaw tours- but never one as big as this. Not even close! You guys must be doing it right.

We prefer "Good Guys Spirited Tours" vs "Outlaws". Our group is an outgrowth of club tours for exactly the reasons you mention. We do safe, spirited tours with 90% of cars being couples, not just guys. Club drives in ATL area tend to be older members with older cars, 50%+ of our group are under forty, driving relatively new cars and some great classics. Drives always ending early afternoon at a nice place for lunch and socializing. We have a lot of fun.....

There are two MINI clubs here in my town. The original one has mostly social gatherings, supports several local charities, and meets at local car shows (although there are some members who track/autocross as well.)
There is another group, less formal with no dues, fees, or membership, that does nothing but actual drives. I've been on a couple of "spirited" ones in the Texas Hill Country, and some other fun ones like Christmas light drives with them.
Have yet to find anything like them for Porsches in my area.

You guys in areas with "Good Guys" type events don't know how lucky you are. Here in the Seattle area PNWR used to have Tours like these, almost all couples, plenty of them young(ish!) and lots of fun. But the hard core of the region is very old guard authoritarian. If they get a group like this one, 34 cars (and that would be average, they can get a lot more) they will break it up into groups of 10 cars, each group with a lead and follow car, with radios, making sure nobody ever goes over the limit. A rolling traffic jam of Porsches. With numerous "breaks" waiting on the shoulder for the groups to get back together- as if they couldn't do that driving. Funny thing is, even being as oppressive as all that, they still love to say "spirited" driving, when really the "spirit" is more like a ghost of something long since dead and buried (fun). This drive sounds a whole lot more, uh, inspired.

Chuck911, that's funny.

We've doen drives like this with the Corvette group here as well in the mountains. Spirited means spirited here.

Does anyone know the wheel manufacturer for the wheels on the black 991 in the fourth picture? Looking for a winter/track wheel. Thanks!

Thanks - that's what I thought - they are my likely choice from a value perspective. My other choice is the BBS CH-R.
