Default Voice Control, your experience with it and is it worth it as an option.

I have a question for the folks that have the VOICE CONTROL option installed. Just one simple question, well may be more, does the system work to your standards? A friend had a similar setup in his $45K Acura and the system didn't work worth a poop and he wished he never purchased it.

Is the Porsche system mature enough to actually work? The reason I said standards in the previous paragraph is because some people expect a Voice Control system to work as smoothly as the computer on the USS Enterprise.

So for those who have it and use it, and have a great deal of experience in the system, is it worth the Money Porsche charges?

Gracias

It's a skip in my book. Doesn't work well in my opinion.

Where are you? Maybe someone in your area can show you how poorly it works.

I learned the hard way that the language has to be set correctly as English GB did not work for US road names.

It works decent for entering addresses verbally, into the NAV, while driving.
However it gets a big knock for not allowing verbal entry of Zip Codes.
It makes you say the City Name.

Does the NAV allow you to enter zip codes manually?

Yes, but not via Voice.

Thanks for the input so far fella's! It seems like the Gene Roddenyberry vision of input VIA voice is still a good ways off. It will just take better regional dialect and algorithms to solve this - oh and of course processor that is 50's times faster and purely dedicated to the task.

What I like about it is, Press the button at the end of the stalk and say:
  • Go to (any place in the Saved Destinations list)
  • Go Home (if you're someplace off your beaten path and you want the fastest way home ...and know the time you'll get there)
  • Call Home
  • Call Wife
  • Play Source (FM, AM, SAT, CD of AUX)
  • Play FM 103.3
  • etc.

You can do all this on the PCM & touchscreen, but it's less easy if you're driving and bouncing around. Especially the touchscreen. Lots of mis-strokes.

But if you have a budget, easy to justify not getting it.

But like Entry & Drive, once you have a car with Voice Control, it's a deal-killer if a potential new car doesn't have it.

Worthless.

Tried it at the dealer. Even the dealer told me not to order it.

Took the advice and never looked back.

It came on my car as I got mine preowned. It works pretty well with everything but names. The sales person looked at it and said....Wow I have never seen a 911 with voice command. I guess it is pretty rare. I don't think its a "must have" at all.

I've got it - ordered this way and don't regret it at all. Go for it.

I noticed that staring and fiddling the screen WHILE driving is pretty dangerous since it is positioned well below the driving view. I don't have it, but I'd recommend it just for safety.

I have voice command in my other cars, but not my 991. When I ordered my car I did not bother because I never really used it in my other cars.

If you're using it for phone calls, just mount your phone and use Google Now or Siri to access your address book if you really want voice. If the phone is synched via bluetooth, the car's speakers and mic are used for the call.
