Cabriolet Owners! Any Sage Advice?
Hi All Cab Owners out there!
Just got the call that my Cabrio S is in New Mexico and due for delivery tomorrow afternoon! This is my first 911 and first Convertible.
After reading through most of the great and informative threads here, I have gleaned much and am so excited for "Lucy" to arrive! (She had a red top!)
Anyway, I bought RaggTopp for the protection of the Cab top. I know the top will require brushing as opposed to washing, but would love any sage advice from Cab owners regarding any items I may need to know prior to learning the hard way!
I know the top can be retracted as long as car is not exceeding 31 mph. Would love to get any insights as to what you love or don't love about your car. Thanks...I am giddy with excitement & trust me when I say, this does not happen often!

Buy and install a Smart Top Module. Best upgrade you can do. With the top, don't scrub it, just rinse.....no abrasion when you wash it - and of course it never should go through a car wash.

I never have the car in motion when moving the cabriolet top. Even when I know Porsche says you can.
I'm not in that much of a hurry to wait the 13 seconds before I move. I feel over the long run, this puts less wear & tear on the top's mechanicals.

Great looking car. 1+ on the smart top. I have had no issues so nothing to report for don't do or need to do. Of course seal it and keep it clean. Just make sure it is down as much as possible. That is why I bought it and how a cab should be driven.
Some owners reported that they had some rubbing causing a discoloration along the sides so you look at that to make sure yours is adjusted properly. You can find that post here - about 60 days ago I think.

The top is going to make rubbing and crease marks when it's down. What you can do to mitigate this is get a thin black (or in your case burgundy) towel, open the top to about 2/3 and lay the towel or 2 towels at the leading edges above where the glass rear window is so that when the top is down it's separated by the towel. You'll have secondary rubbing spots about 1/3 of the way from the front windshield too. Essentially, anywhere the top touches itself it's going to rub and PCNA considers that normal wear.
For cleaning I would get Porsche's car shampoo and using a sponge dedicated to the top gently clean it in forward to back motions. Then protect it twice a year with Porsche's Convertible Top Protectant - it will prevent water from saturation and staining the top, but it's an aerosol and gets everywhere - so you'll have overspray to remove which is a b):&/ to get off the rear window - I would just tape off the rear window and around the top before you spray.

A very easy way and effective way to remove the protectant from the rear glass window is by saturating a small piece of cloth with denatured alcohol. Repeat if necessary. Buff dry with another clean white cloth.

You really recommend to do this? No offense, but that's WAY too much of the Machine owning you - myself I'll just buy a new top when the current one wears out, and they all do over time.

All of the advice above is good, except for using a brush on the top. Just use a sponge. Wash it frequently, and make sure that the top is completely dry before putting it down.

always keep a wind breaker in the car, then you can put the top down and put the heat on if it's too cold. i use a lint roller on my top. it's in the high eighties now, but my top will be down for the cruise home Enjoy
