When I was in the Scottsdale dealership last week for (yet another) windshield replacement, they had a beautiful pts 991 on the floor. I think it might have been mexico blue.
Correct. Some folks believe that single stage paint of solid colors at Porsche continued into the 1990's with the 993. At some point during that time frame, PAG switched all paint to two-stage system, base & clear, something that had been previously used only with their metallic colors!

Zathras, I don't see it on Penske's Scottsdale dealer website. Did you take any photos?
they have the engine size listed wrong in the summary at the top (3.6l) but it is definitely a base.
maybe someone can run the vin and find the color code. The sticker just said 'pts'.
Why do dealers order PTS cars with standard (non full-) leather interiors? Wouldn't you think that the type of buyer who would spend the money on a very special exterior would also be the type of buyer who would not be willing to settle for a very base interior? Maybe it's just me.

I'm betting its Mexico, but it could be Riviera, you can only really tell if they are side-by-side or with the paint code.Looks great with those platinum wheels

conversely the dealer that specced my GT3 threw pretty much every (stupid) leather option he could at my car ... seat backs, air vent, dome light ... insane!

The only option they forgot was "Carrera S" or this car would be long gone.
I only have the basic interior options (like this car) and not a "leather cave" and happy with it. A lot of leather is high maintenance too.
What I would be missing are performance and exterior appearance options.

I'm with you. Aside from the fact a $100k+ car should be swathed in leather from head to toe to begin with, I tried to get everything I would be touching in leather (like the steering column casing and sun visors). The turbo comes with full leather, but I would ordered it on any car I chose.
But a 3.4 PTS makes me wonder if it was a cancelled customer order.

That could be... It's a 2014, which they stopped building awhile ago, and this car was not on the lot the last few times I was at the dealer. So I wonder if it has been sitting somewhere else and this dealer acquired it.
but it is very purty...
