Can't see waiting to 5k, let alone 10.
I also might need to flush the brake fluid. Pedal feel has softened a touch.

I would not change the oil yet. I think I changed mine around 4k and after the break in and a couple of track days. This has been discussed quite a bit on this forum if you do some searching.

There seems to be two camps, the first who believe that 10k or 12 months is sufficient and the oil is not materially degraded by then. The second feels better changing it early even if there is no science to support doing it. I'm in the second camp for the first change and am now changing it every 12 months that works out to be about 5k miles anda bunch of track days.

I always change my oil after break in, then go with manufactures recommendation after that!

I'm pretty old school with this, too.

I do first change at 1500 miles (post break-in). Then at 5K intervals. Probably unnecessary but pleases me.

If you are going to change the oil I would also change the oil filter. That is historically the correct procedure so if you are going to shorten the break-in period from its historical 5-10,000 miles you should also remember to change the filter. Interestingly most don't even think about that!

I'm old school too, and for the $250 it cost me, it's a no brainer. Did it at 750 miles.

I sure hope that anyone going to the bother and expense of changing the oil would spend another 5 minutes and $20 on a new filter!

It sounds to me like the OP has spent some time on the track. You probably don't *need* to change the oil, but you know what, why not? It won't hurt anything and it certainly might help the long-term health of the engine. Go for it!

Ditto on the brakes. Back in my track days, I'd flush the brake fluid every couple of months. I could do it in 45 minutes by myself and one floor jack.

Same here. You can diy for $80 - cheap "insurance" as they say. I cut open my filter and in the folds was just glitter like metal, no chunks. So I guess the ones like me who do it at 1000 feel better seeing bits of metal cleaned out and those that don't would say glitter bits are nothing to worry about. Go with what makes you feel better.

Did oil change #1 in early April at about 1,300 miles (see my UOA and thread on this). Switched to Joe Gibbs DT40 5W40. You can see from the UOA that the factory fill Mobil 0W40 is on the very-very low end for zinc, phosphorus and the shear viscosities are low too.

Oil change #2 was just done yesterday at about 4,900 miles. I'll have the UOA by Monday.

Guess I should have said oil & filter. I wouldn't even think of changing the oil without a filter change!

I would certainly change the filter as well. Thanks for the responses. Going to change it out shortly.

Lex, thanks for re-linking your lab results. Confused if I should do another round of 0W-40, or go to a 5-40 like Motul, or the one you're using? I used to run Mobil 0-40 in some Audis. Never was a fan really. Not at all trying to create an oil debate.

That would be a very good choice. So would the Joe Gibbs I'm using. Mobil 5W50 would be very good too.

Yep. Can't hurt a thing. Changed mine at around 1200. 4 autoX's and 2 DE's to date. Just turned 4K, I will change at 5K miles too. Also run a little Chevron Techron every few thousand miles. Good stuff.

Every new car I buy gets an oil change at 1000 miles. It could be the F350 or a pcar, it gets changed at 1000 miles.
