I'm picking it up tmrw so I will be able to ask some questions as it does seem ridiculous. I had a 5 series BMW that had a clogged roof drain and had the same issue with the rear footwells. I checked the roof on my 991 but I couldn't find a drain (it does have a sunroof).

I agree with blocked sunroof drains. I had that problem a few times with a BMW. The water would accumulate in the back foot wells also.

I agree with either the sunroof or the A/C drain as the most likely source for this. I this problem with 2 of my previous cars:
In one it was the AC outlet that got plugged with leaves over the fall. The next spring when I started using the AC it started to blow cold air, then I got some white stuff coming out of the vents (humidity in the system), then lots of water in the footwell. If you park on an incline the water will pool in a gravity dependent position (in the rear footwell). Easy fix - I pulled off the little rubber outlet, blew air through it which unclogged it, and put it back - problem solved.
The other time I had a problem it turned out to be the drains in the sunroof. Every time it rained, there would be water in the footwell...again - in a gravity dependent position. I flushed the drains out with compressed air and again, problem solved.
Hopefully you can find a simple solution to the problem!

Spoke to the service manager today at Danbury Porsche. They removed the carpets and the seats - water tested the roof, rear etc.. and found water coming through the "front firewall plug". After talking about the drains etc.. he was very emphatic and positive he was correct about the source of the leak.

I still don't know how water coming in the front firewall ends up in the rear footwell...

Doesn't make any sense...... Leak in front firewall, water accumulation in the rear footwell?

I opened mine for the 3 or maybe 4th time the other day just to break and re seal the thing. I keep the shade closed 99% of the time. There was a car identical to the one I own at my dealer but it was a special order. I would have liked to have that one.

WjKelly.

Happy to hear he was confident about the source of the leak. Since you caught it early there shouldn't be any burgeoning water issues. I also find it hard to believe the water got from front to rear like that but water takes the path of least resistance. And driving at speed in the rain in Connecticut will fill a car with water quick! Good luck!

I'm surprised too. I didn't think that such a significant amount of water could be driven through the firewall. Hopefully the issue is fixed. Keep us updated if more water issues arise!

So it rained here hard in NE this weekend. The car was outside but not driven in the rain; I'm guessing that means the roof drains or AC drains.

Back to the dealer - yet again...

That blows...so the problem isn't fixed I would definitely go for the roof drain.
If the car wasn't driven, it's probably not the AC...
Also, check all your seals around the doors and windows...and (I know it sounds stupid) make sure the windows are all the way up.
One final thought - the frameless glass windows retract when you open them and go back up when you close them. My brother had a problem where the glass wasn't going back up once the door was closed...so the window was basically cracked open a little bit, and thus, water in the car when it rained. I think the Porsche drops both windows when you open the driver door, so listen and watch for both of them to go down, then up...
Keep us updated...sorry about this - no one wants water inside their car!!
