Default Door Trim

I have been looking at a lot of pictures of 991s and realized that some have a silver painted strip on the door, and others don't. The strip looks nice, but apparently comes only if you got the full leather interior.
Does anyone have experience switching the standard black strip to the silver one? Any technical tips removing the trim? Also, does anyone know where I could get the trim piece? I have looked around and can't find the part for sale (they sell the trim across the dash, but not door trim).

The trim on the door and the leather on the panel directly underneath is the only reason I went with a full leather interior. AFAIK, it is going to be hard to procure easily because it is not available as an accessory. Your VIN will not allow the dealer to order the entire panel in leather along with that strip (which is what you need). This is what my dealer advised me when I was shopping for mine.

Not saying that it can't be done with enough perseverance and knowing who to talk to, but it won't be easy. Start with high end body shops who can order parts from Porsche and find someone willing to bend the rules.

Go all the way to the aluminum trim, if you're going to mess with it at all. The metalized plastic isn't that bad, but the aluminum trim pieces look like a million bucks (and are priced accordingly, unfortunately.)

I thought the silver strip is standard and you upgrade it to leather, CF, or wood.

Yes - I thought it was standard too (because thats what all the floor models usually have). It looks nice and continues the line from the dash. I just realized this weekend though that some (mine included - I bought a car, and was just admiring the pictures - I have yet to take delivery) have the strip in black. I played around with the configured, and looked at a bunch of on line cars, and realized that you only get the strip on the door with the full leather interior. Bummer...

That's crazy. I totally thought it would be an easy mod...but from my research so far it is looking that it may not even be possible at all. Its so odd - it really looks so much better with the metal strip (aluminum or the painted silver)
If anyone knows how to get parts/change it out, fill me in!
Thanks!

No - the dash is in painted silver...when you keep looking it, it keeps looking more weird...but I guess a lot of cars are built that way - if you search for used cars, more of them have the black door strip than not.
Heres a pic of the dash...sorry, its a little small - can't seem to fix that...

Here is a standard interior in black. Dash trim pieces are the painted silver look, doors are black with no silver trim.

Stealthboy -
Thanks for the bigger pic. Looking at your pic, I guess it still looks pretty sweet - it still is a 911 interior, after all! I just wish there was an easy way to pop the black strip out and pop in a silver one. I think it finishes off the dash line nicely...

Dash & door strip comes in silver as standard which you can upgrade as an option to polished alloy, exterior colour, leather, carbon fibre or mahogany wood (laminate).

The dash does come standard in silver, but the door trim is standard in black. It only comes in silver if you upgrade to the full leather interior...

I just checked the configurator again as I had only been looking at Targa so I checked all models (C2, C2S, C4, C4S, Targa) and it looks silver but this is the GB site so it may be different in USA or perhaps a new change for My14/15 models. Also perhaps config pics are not accurate!

Is it painted black? Plastic trim? Or??? My car has the full leather and it's all in silver...depending on material, I may want to trade...thoughts?

It's that rubberized leather patterned/textured type stuff. If you don't have a leather dash, its like the upper part of the dash. Not made of leather. Not painted. To be honest, I think it would be a downgrade for you if you have the silver stuff...but if you want to trade, we could figure something out!
