Default Wheel Cleaning

So while my GF is on the phone with her Mother in Europe, I decided to jack up the car to clean and wax the wheels. She comes out and asks me what I'm doing now. I explain that I'm waxing the wheels on the inside because they're painted.

She says I'm nuts!

So does anyone else do this?

Please let me know. There's a bet involved!

LOL, I clean and wax the inside of the wheels when I have them off the car, as they are painted and it makes them much easier to clean the next time. Not sure that doing it Mother's Day was good timing though...

My wife has just gotten used to me being nuts I guess.

Hello Homeles,

Of course you are supposed to wax the interior of the wheels. They have paint and a clearcoat layer. Keeping them clean is another thing.

In this post, I showed how I did that. https://rennlist.com/forums/11293391-post134.html

This post contains pictures of the interior of the wheels with the water beading. https://rennlist.com/forums/11296157-post152.html

My Hubby is very happy that I love to wash and wax the interior of the wheels

Homeless, you need a better GF!

You're not nuts.

Top your wheels with Armor All Wheel Protectant. About $7 per can at Walmart. Wheels stay clean for hundreds of miles. Easier to clean next time too.

Too much silicone for me. Used P21 after Pinnacle glaze!

Looks like you just washed them. I removed mine from the vehicle. Here's the results. And by the way, I found there was no anti-sieze on the hub eccentric or the wheel backing.

One for your girlfriend's win column, I suspect:
I make sure not to wash past the lip so that the inside drum stays uniformly and nicely black.

Yup I admit I do that at least once a year. Take the wheels off and wax them from the inside. I also wax and clean them when they are on the car as well. To be more **** I clean the tires from the inside, lot of brake dust seems to get stuck on the inside of the tires, of course that is only when the wheels are off.

I had my detailer take the wheels off and opti-coat the full barrel, so I don't think you're nuts.

Ditto on the opti-coat.

When cleaning, I spend a LOT of time on the rims. I get my Wheel Woolie everywhere I can, followed by attacking the tighter spaces with a long hair brush. For redundancy I have a special micro fiber mit after all that. Very cathartic.

When I wash my car the majority of the time is spent on the wheels. I have a separate wheel cleaning bucket, wash mitt, wheel soap, wheel brushes, lug nut brush, etc. Also, when I swap out Winter/Summer wheels I do a detailed cleaning behind the spokes.

You're not nuts.

While we are on this subject has anyone sourced a good pad that has the same stopping qualities of the OEM pads that come on the S that don't throw as much or any dust?

I use Porterfield pads for my Alcon calipers on my Saleen and they have options of the amounts of dust they throw depending on the pad you use. The trade is that the other model pads they offer are noisy/squeak.

My CLS had the AMG brakes and from the day it was new the pads the dealer used always threw a LOT of dust right up until the last 2 sets of new pads that they installed before I sold the car and whatever they used didn't squeak and threw almost no dust! I went back to the dealer a couple months later and they couldn't tell me what they used on my car for some reason.

Question is does anyone here know of a pad for our cars that throw little or no dust?
